Mayeli Kohan can bring back our old 90s style hopefully and change our game plan all together. He will introduce more Daei, Mahdavi Kia, Karimi, Bagheri, Azizi, Hashemian, Majidi, Mansourian, Khatibi, Enayati, Nikbat to our team. He has the connection he has the talent and good insight.

Now that we've advanced, which was very probable and expected, I now can say Khakpour's group games strategy was wrong.
I think since the knockout stage is so close, teams need to conserve their energy. Very logical. But instead of the more sensible strategy of sewing up the advance as soon as possible and early on, and then thinking about resting key players, Khakpour chose the wrong time to do it.
So instead of taking your foot off the gas in the second game, I think he should have stayed aggressive in the second game and then rest key players against the weakest team of the group.
Resting a guy like Torabi, who is one of the impactful players, in the second game was not wise. We should have aimed to meet Qatar with the very best squad possible, try to sew up the first place, and then rest against china.
I really don't know how he decided his group strategy.
I just hope it doesn't backfire on us.

In a way I'm glad this happened in the Early stage as long as he learned his lesson! I'm not sure if it makes any difference wether it's Japan or Saudis, is this team and coaching good enough, not convinced whilst I shall support them through out.sigpic

UAE, the same team that eliminated the defending champion later on, had nothing to offer vs. TM other than nonsense "possession". Review the game; at very best they only had 1-2 half-ass chances, while we put heavy pressure on their goal till the end, eventually scoring the very well deserved winning goal.
Having said that, I think it's also important when we look at TM Omid and analyze their performances, to consider their relative strength to the other teams in the tournament. If we don't go with the FIFA ranking, I think we can all agree that TM (senior) is and has always been one of the top 6 if not 4 teams in Asia.
TM Omid on the other hand was in total shambles before the qualifying for this tournament and has [hopefully had] been for a VERY long time. When the draw for the qualification was done, we were placed in Pot 2 - every other team in the group we just advanced from, including China, was a Pot 1 team (Qatar as hosts).
Only 1 x Pot 3 and 4 x Pot 2 teams even made it to the finals and the rest of them have been thrashed in this tournament - the other Pot 2 teams have a single point between all three of them out of 8 matches so far!!! We're also likely to finish the Group stage in terms of points ahead of or on par with 6 x Pot 1 teams.
So, it hasn't been perfect or even good or pretty, but the boys have come a LONG way already and who knows, if they gained a little more confidence from advancing and have a little more momentum from this match, just maybe they can go further.
All I know is that the exposure guys like Torabi and Milad Mohammadi or even Motahhari, Kamandani and Cheshmi can get from the Olympics will do them and all of Iran a lot of good.
And with that said, my point for all of the posts in this thread is only to say that the boys deserve our positivity and support - particularly when they're so limited by the coaching cadre - hell, I don't think Japan would have even made it to the finals with MK anywhere around their team!Last edited by Bi-honar; 01-18-2016, 05:12 PM.

Players must put their heart out and do not miss similar to Mohammadi one on one chance(s). The game with Japan will be a close game and might go to extra time and penalty. Good experience for Iran's team. We should also forget about the coaching staff.چو ایران نباشد تن من مباد

Lol when I read PersianLegion's posts I'm convinced he's being serious...
But then I look at his signature and get reminded that he's just trolling -_-

Guys, Japan didn't have a mind-blowing performance against North Korea by any means.
IMHO, the North Koreans were nowhere near TM Omid in terms of quality of players or technical abilities, but they were semi-organized and hustled well and it was a pretty even match that went Japan's way, compliments of a VERY early set-play goal.
Our chances of beating Japan are definitely not 90%, it's not even 50%, but as we say the ball is round!
Let's keep the vibes positive, keep fingers crossed, pray to God, meditate, drink and salute or whatever turns you on, for Iran to be successful against Japan.
