this isn't an easy group for us by any means. the uzbeks play us extremely well, as does qatar. and the games against SK could go either way depending on the day, as we all know. china is a wild card and knowing our boys, the syria games are trap games.

this will be about mental preparation and motivation. Because as things stand, qatar, SK and uzbeks all have a bone to pick with us and are all more motivated against us than we are against them.

This is going to be an unpopular opinion, but the transition right now is the best transition we have ever had. Better than 2002 and 2010. There are no more "holes" in our team in terms of a starting 11 and backups.

We play better against teams that do not know how to park the bus. Thats all these teams except for Qatar. CQ is Qatars daddy though.
Most teams in this group hold a grudge against each other, whether historically or from the previous WCQ.

As you said, obviously China is going to take the piss at Korea and take some points from them the moment Korea lets its guard down.

And Uzbekistan wants ''rematch'' against both Iran and Korea for not making it to the World Cup last time.

And Qatar.... well Qatar DOES have friends. Not the teams that are in the group, but the officials.

      Don't forget this...

By avoiding Saudi Arabia and UAE, we instead gets the REFEREES from those countries. (and in the other group, Saudi Arabia and UAE get Iranian / Korean referees for example)

That means Qatar has many friends when it comes to referees.

This is beyond ridiculous. If FIFA and AFC go along with this then F**k them both.

When was this ban enforced? Saudi played an away game against Thailand in 2011

holly shitt, part of me wanted SA in our group, knowing we had a good chance of beating the shitt outa of them, but seeing all these bs refusal to travel from these goons, now im sooo glad we avoided them in the draw..!!

surely AFC/FIFA needs to put a stop to these asswipe's bs excuses for refusal to travel or better yet just ban the mofos from the competition all together..!!?

I didn't follow the draw, because I was away with my GF for 2 days without even looking on my phone.

It's a group with perspective, I see. The chance of going through this time is much higher than 2014 WCQ's.

South Korea - Arguably the best Asian side at the moment IMO, but we got their number.

Uzbekistan - Pretty overrated, and inconsistent. I think we can beat them twice, their federation and team is a mess.

Qatar - I wanted to avoid them, because of non-footballing reasons. They need to qualify for this World Cup because they are hosts for the next, so I wish we didn't have to face them.

China - I don't know much about them, we havent played them since a long time. But they are nothing to be afraid of, despite their ''strong'' league. Anything less than 6 points is a disappointment.

Syria - I expect the full 6 points from them, but we should be aware of the ''Beirut'' scenario anytime.

We lost against China in Asian Cup 2004 semi-finale on penalty kicks. We played very poor in that game with 10 or 9 men? But normally we win. I believe this time we beat them home and in China.

China cheated in the game. Alavi didn't deserve to get a red card. Plus after Karimi had broken free past the Chinese defense for a one on one with the goalie, he was brought down from behind with a vicious tackle which clearly deserved a red card. However the referee only handed out a yellow.

That also means Uzbekistan gets Japanese refs(who apparently screw them over). It will be tough but no reason we can't prevail. I'll give you Qatar having officials as friends. We are motivated. How many of our current squad were part of the starting 11 last world cup? They want it just as much.
