''The international spotlight is also set to intensify as the current team seeks to become the first from Qatar to qualify for the World Cup finals and spare the country the indignity of being the first nation since Italy 1934 to host football's biggest tournament having never previously qualified.''

Trashing them is going to be even more fun because of this

I don't know if anybody noticed but Akram Afif of Qatar (Tanzania) joined a la liga team. Also the Qatari owned AS eupen promoted to Jupiler league so they can fill it with even more of their players

This is probably similar to what the Chinese did in the Portugese 2nd division.

100% sure that this Akram Afif guy will barely make the first squad, I mean he comes from the freaking Belgian 2nd division. This transfer is all about $$$ for Villarreal, just like the Chinese player who went to Wolfsburg and never played any game.

he also doesnt really have a great scoring record considering he has played against some dire teams, he scored 1 of the 15 goals v bhutan. Its a classic case at throwing money at the problem and hoping the aspire academy will produce players that can make them compete on the international stage. I m sure this program will help the qatar national team, but you cant buy passion for the shirt. And i think every other country in the group has more passion for their nations than Qatar does. Again players playing in europe doesnt always mean a national team will benefit from it, europe isnt the be all and end all. A strong national team is about cohesion with one another and i think our team has that more than any other team in Asia. Remember international football is a different kettle of fish to regular football , these are players of different nationalities meeting for 1 week of the season to play amongst each other, if a player is playing in europe but is getting no game time hes going to find the cohesion process alot harder

Exactly, the Belgian 2nd division is probably on par with Azadegan level. It just angers me that Chinese, and now even Qatari players make it to La Liga without being actually talented. Yet our best players go to a Dutch or Russian club.

I am ver concern about Qatar in our group

FIFA and AFC wifi do everything they can to make sure Qatar qualifies for Russia including buying Refs 😡😡

Playing in Europe doesn't exactly equal that you become a good football player anyways. You need to have the potential too, which most of our European legionnaires have.

                    This group is very predictable.

Iran-Qatar. Both games, Qatar will try to counter with diagonal long balls and try to take advantage of our wingbacks. Their goals will only come from corners/counters.
Iran-Uzbekistan- 50/50 possession. Dogfight. Whoever pushes the other around more wins the game.
Iran-South Korea- South Korean possession/Iranian counters. The South Korean lack of quality strikers and lack of Iranian central attack mids might make this game frustrating as a neutral.
Iran-China- Chinese will play us outright or bunker. It's up to them. Average level Asian opposition.
Iran-Syria We will have most of the ball. Syrians try scoring on counters.

The Qatar games in this group is a chore for us. CQ should cultivate the same mentality we had for the match in Doha last time in both matches . Keep your head down, don't respond to any Qatari tricks, get a goal and maybe insurance, leave without hesitation.

Remember Qatar will have to try and impress the world this qualification round. Whoever talks about football will reference their qualifying results. They might attack more than usual and we can make them pay for it.

im pretty happy with with our best players at the moment, we have two of our best players playing at rostov, that will help our team chemistry greatly in the same way the harry kane and Deli Ali play toghther has helped England greatly. I would rather have our players starting and being important figures for their clubs in weaker leagues then bench rotting at a top european club. This qatari player will bench rot for 3-4 years and will be back in the QSL in no time dont worry. And even if these players do develop into decent players they still wont produce for the national team as they wont have passion or pride for the shirt

My prediction (and everyone please quote me back in the future) is that he will go on 1 year without a game in Spain, then Villareal will loan him to Al-Sadd during the rest of his contract length, and yes once that's done he will be back in Qatar.

This will be a replica of similar Chinese/Thai European transfers based on non-footballing deals, or similar to that UAE player that was sent to Lyon few years ago, just that here mighty Aspire academy is using their "connections" ($$) with various club all across Europe to desperately try to send players and help Qatar build a credible team for the upcoming WC, along with their foreign naturalization process

Yes money talks but sometimes it isn't enough

Other than Omar Abdulrahman who is truly an anomaly, no Arab player has the quality to play in Europe without $$$.

They just don't have the same passion for football as we do. The difference between Iran and other nations is that for so many years we can pack 100K people into stadiums for important league and national team games.

When you go watch a Qatari league game, or a UAE national team game, the same passion is not there.

When these teams host the Asian Cup, nobody cares to come watch even the home teams' matches. If Iran hosted the Asian Cup, you can guarantee that 10-20K people would watch Australia vs. Japan, or Korea vs. Australia. Every Iran match in an Asian Cup hosted by Iran would fill the stadium to capacity.

That is the difference between the passions of Iranians and our neighbors. Not many teams in world football have the passion for football that Iranians do. People hate us for that, because they wish they had the same care about football that we did.

Why do you all think we have an "internet mafia" and our players always win fan votes for player awards? Because we all care about football. A Qatari would never win a fan vote for anything, because they have apathetic fans. They don't care about football that much. They just care about being respected as a country by the rest of the world. Their football ambitions are a side-effect of that need for respect.

Our away game against Syria will probably be played in Lebanon

Our first match vs. Qatar in Azadi will hugely important for us to not only win but convincingly
BTW I am traveling to Iran on Aug.28 th-sept.15 and I will be attending that match in Azadi
And as strange as it maybe last time I went to Azadi for a TM match was in 2012 when we played this same Qatar in our WCQ group stage to a 0-0 draw , a very disappointing performance.
But I am hopeing for a very different result this time around 👍👍😃😃👌👌

Actually Arabs are mad about football. However sadly their countries are tiny and don't have enough people to produce top talents. That's why they rely on imported players.
