I remember watching the game - it was Iran's first proper test since the world cup and Denmark were playing at home with their strongest side:

Schmeichel, Helveg, Goldbaek, Tofting, Ebbe Sand, Jon Dahl Tomasson etc... all their lineup was in the top leagues

We had Karimi out for a year due to attacking a referee, and the line up if i am right included the absolute midfield void of Emamifar, Halali and behind them Hasheminasab, Rahbarifar. Yazdani had been exciting but fizzled out. We had Mousavi up front lol. Out of the mediocre era TM sorkhabi players the only one who i rated was Navazi for his crosses but he had Mahdavikia ahead of him.

We only started generating young talent a year later again, by which time PH was out, then Blazevic got a young Nekounam, Khaziravi etc..., and more players started coming through, then Branko wrecked it all by his decision, e.g. not choosing the 22-year old IPL player of the year, who was two-footed, due to an argument about a transfer to Dynamo Zagreb.

a lot of that was on Pourheydari (RIP). He insisted on the old method of brining in equal number Persepolis and Esteghlal players.

He also wouldn’t call up guys like Bagheri and Azizi who were still really useful.
