The reason why I added the american citizen was because a lot of i.r hezbolahi's (mayeli kohan) would argue against him for being an american citizen.

In all honesty, he was truly a special guy and I will never forget that championship winning year with Perspolis. We played beautiful attacking football, didn't give up till the last second, had so much hashie and so much against us plus 6 points deducted but we still won the championship.

It was really a shame how much he had against him and could't carry on.

It's a shame that there was such a smear campaign against him - both from Mehran Molkara as well as some members here (notably, Kaiser-Amir).
Be it luck or bad coaching, Ghotbi has not shined anywhere. I hope he shines in Thailand and proves me wrong. If he doesn't he doesn't have much success to fall back on for his next job.

If he demonstrated some level of quality after coaching Shimizu I would give him credit, but he really didn't.

I disagree, he actually did good with that team. I kinda followed his journey there and Shimizu S-Pulse was essentially a mid table team at BEST! They were also a selling team and sold their best players every season with unknown youth players being promoted. As soon Qhotbi left they went down hill and sacked two other coaches within a few months! He usually kept them mid table or I think even on the top for a few months but they are now relegated and play in the second division.

Wasn't a major reason for the hatred among many fans, that he attended Ahmadinejad's inauguration ceremony?

His title with Persepolis was fantastic, his team played great all around football. That was one of, if not the most entertaining Persepolis teams post revolution. Look at what happened after he left....

Wow such an unfair and biased statement. Perspolis' last championship was under his reign, while playing beautifully. Shimizu played one of its best football and maintained a decent position on J League table.

After Perspolis championship he left Iran and was brought back in half into the next season.

Shimizu after his departure is now enjoying Japan's third division...

Update: he's got 2 wins and 3 draws since becoming the clubs head coach, not too bad. They're currently 13 points out from 2nd place (sitting in 4th right now, top 2 get ACL play off spots) and the league is only half way complete so it'll be interesting to see if Ghotbi can help make a big push.

That´s not true, we played well in the group stage back in 2011. Also TM not qualifying for the world cup in 2010 is on Ali Daei not Qotbi.

So 3 months ago I stated how shit Ghotbi is. There are a bunch of users who said he was great because he won a corrupt league like IPL with Persepolis.

So in total Ghotbi has had 5 jobs all ending him being fired prematurely.

I've always found you to be one of the better commentors here at PFDC, and yeah you're right; he is a garbage manager.
