It's simple, if we want to make it past the group stage the next World Cup then we should be playing top 50 ranked teams only. This is the only way to see where we really stand.
If CQ and IFF are aiming to get the same results as in 2014, then we should keep playing teams like Kyrgyzstan and Macedonia.
You can't expect different results if you insist on the same mentality. TM is not challenging themselves enough because they always play low profile friendlies.
They will never get out of their comfort zone. Cancelling the friendly with Croatia was just weak. Instead, we got Macedonia who ended below even Luxembourg in their qualification group for god's sake.
I agree completely with O-ZoNe on this matter.

Not necessarily Kiarash jaan. At this stage we need to play teams at the levels of our group teams, what good will it do if we played Spain and crushed prior to our WCQ round against team like China, Syria, Qatar and even Korea? We need to play team who play similar to these teams, this way we pre-experience such battlefields.

I strongly believe playing world class teams and getting thrashed by them at this stage won't help us. Let's first finish our WCQ games and qualify to the WC, and then prior to the WC it does make sense to play teams that resemble the footballing style of those countries grouped with us, or even stronger.

Example; today love is in the air on PFDC and the entire country, as result of a beautiful football by TM, imagine we played Argentina or Italy and got humiliated. If that happened every single one of PFDC members and Iranians would have been a nerve wrack, cussing everyone, calling for CQ head, while threatening the players etc.

Let's be realistic please!

Why does everyone assume we'd get crushed if we played top teams?

No one is definitively stating such manner of losses. It's a presumptive suggested scenario!

The purpose of friendlies is to prepare for upcoming matches. It doesn't make sense to play top european countries if we have to face the likes of china and qatar and need to play attacking football.
