Why is that sad? It's not that Iran is supposed to be a goal scoring nation. Why do you care about such stats anyways? It's the team that produces goals, no matter how good or bad our strikes were in the past.
A realistic self assessment would help here.

The ridiculous match ups against Maldives, Guam, Nepal that allowed Daei to inflate his numbers like that are not going to be around for Sardar.
Seeding has changed so has the quality of football in Asia.

its FAR FAR FAR more Difficult to perform exceptionally and score goals in Today's world standards of football than it was over 2 decades ago ..!
its almost like comparing scoring figures of an IPL footballer with that of a guy competing in current Top 3 professional leagues of the world..!

to me its not even all about the scoring either.... just witness the immense overall footballing quality difference between the two..!! Azmoun already is a far more complete and superior footballer than Daie ever was even back in his prime age 27-28..



the only other iranian footballer who ive ever witnessed possessing such truly exceptional footballing brain and skill-set was AK8..!

Sure it's an achievement and I'm not taking away from Ali. I'm just pointing out that It will be hard for Sardar to reach that level because the level of competition is higher in Asian football.

Ali Daei + Khodadad Azizi = Sardar Azmoun

Daei was a far better finisher than Sardar. Sardar is faster and has a better leap.

Saardar is better in positioning. Ali Daei wanted the ball there where he wants it. Sardar like Azizi hides himself but
runs fast to where the ball is sent to. He must have had special training for these kind.
