I really hope Azmoun does surpass Daei. As a nation we should want to move forward and keep beating our records. I dont want to become like Puskas and Hungary. Once a great power and now below average. Anyway, overall our striking dept has been lacking but so has rest of the world. Game has changed and you dont see many pure strikers that score a lot of goals. Other great nations lack a deep striking force; Italy, Germany, Spain....
What matters most is winning and winning as a team. To rely on one person to carry you is very dangerous anyway.

I strongly doubt Azmoun would pass Daei lol

Our strikers cant even score on these teams sometimes now. How some Iranians manage to down play scoring that many vs. scoring none is quite a masterful art. Then we wonder why we cant get along and have peace with each other, because we always have those who like to downplay someone's great achievements.
Ali Daie was a great player, and now Azemon is a great player. Both of them care for Iran. Iran and Iranians are proud to have them.

We dont rely on Azmoun. His job is to score. Do we blame strikers for not conceding goals? I dont care how you slice it 99% of teams rely on 2-4 players to take them to a new level. Team play is important but some players are difference makers. Without Vardy/Mahrez/Kante Leicester would have been relegated.

For as long as TM has been around we relied on our striker/our CMs/attacking midfielder. We very recently learned to lean on defense. Our backups are more than good enough for Asian football.

Interestingly we hold world's best goal scorers in both football (Daei) and Futsal (Vahid Shamsaei) To undermine any of these achievements is is pure self-flagellation!

How sexy is to have your countrymen as both Football and Futsal's top scorers?

my bad, you're right, i had a feeling i might have been wrong. I was on a rush and posted from my cell. But my point stands corrected as those times Hungary was a great team and they havent done anything in decades.

hilarious seeing how young this board has become. azmoun doesn't hold a candle to daei yet. daei was an absolute beast in his prime. he was one of the most intelligent players iran has ever produced. he had average athleticism (besides his great leaping ability) but used his smarts to create space and find space where other players couldn't. his positioning was absolutely world class as was his passing. look at any of iran's attacks between 1996-2003 and he was involved on the play in most instances. this guy got an amateur start and started playing at about age 25 and he still made it to bayern munich at a time when iranian players had zero visibility and zero respect in the world. when azmoun scores goals against chelsea in the champions league, we can begin to talk. for now, let's stop the hype. azmoun has a long, long way to go before he can be compared to the greatest forward asia's ever produced.

                    Good post.
Right, as the world goes, is only in question between equals in power, while the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must.

From style of play standpoint Ezatolahi would be a better comparison to Daei

Well done Azmoun! He made his goal look so easy today. He will be one of our top scorers soon and will continue to grow. At his age his accomplishments are outstanding and he is in Europe. He is not hyped, he really is a natural, instinctual, born goal scorer. Looking forward to seeing him develop even more and sign with a big club.

So far, Azmoun has scored 7 NT goals in 2016. The samt amount of international goals as in 2015. If he continues to score 7-8 NT goals in a year, he will surpass Daei's record in about 10-12 years.

This is only for granted if he remains our #1 striker, in the same shape or even better and injury-free.
