Abumoslem killed Behafarid a Zoroastrian priest who led a revolt against the Arabs!
Abdullah I of Tahirid Dynasty banned Persian language and forced the population to speak Arabic.
Ofcourse I understand certain Mullah's preference of Imam Reza to any Abumoslem and Tahirid rulers. After all Imam Reza did nothing against the Persian population and he was a mixed Arab-Berber. Persians killed Persians! Later in history most Zoroastrians were killed by Iranian Turks and Muslim Persians. That's our history. A land full of betrayal.
If I would name a club in Mashhad I would choose any name from the following:
Partava
Ashkani
Khorasan
Tus
Noghan
or even in English form such as Parthians, Parthia.
I don't blame him on putting down few minor rebellions in Khurasan because later he helped a greater cause and that was bringing down the Ummayyid dynasty and restoring Iranians rights among elites. Unfortunately, he was not cautious and his politics were not good enough. He was a good friend of Al Saffah the first Abbasid caliph, but Al Mansour the second caliph feared his power and had him murdered after Al Saffah died.
There were numerous rebellions among Iranians specially in Khurasan after Abu Muslim was murdered. For sure he was seen as an Iranian hero among Muslim and non-Muslim Iranians, otherwise we couldn't see the many rebellions among Iranians which lasted for years and gave fruit in semi independent states (Taherids, Samanids, Saffarids,...) in former Sassanid empire territories. He is a hero/villain figure in eyes of many Iranians but he was the beginning point for Iranian independence and resurgence of Persian/Iranian identity.
There is no doubt Sassanid royal family were still in Khurasan trying fighting their way back to the power along side Chinese and Turkic allies. Piruz III son of Yazgerd was a general in Tang dynasty stationed around today Tajikistan. He and his sons (Narsieh and Khosrow) fought against Ummayyids up to 729 AD (seage of Kamarja). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Kamarja
Abu Muslim (Behzadan pur Vandad Hurmoz) was born in 718 AD and gain power in 747 in Merv. A twenty years of gap between him gaining power and last mention of Sassanid royal family in the region should not be out of context. Perhaps he could restore the house of Sassan with popular support among thousands of Zoroastrian Iranians or newly converted Muslim Iranians.
History lesson aside, Partava, Khurasan, or Tus are good alternative names.
