Afazeli: CQ avoids strong teams to maintain FIFA ranking

After the end of the match , he was interviewed live on Iranian TV, saying CQ has his own special agenda to keep Iran's ranking high by avoiding to play stronger opponents.

Someone should explain to this guy that your ranking doesn't go up if you play teams at the bottom of ranking like Macedonia, otherwise Brazil, Argentina and Germany would all queue up to play against Maldives or San Marino!

Even if it were true, it's a great strategy! The win against macedonia is such a moral booster for TM, unlike the whipping the SK team endured at the hands of Spain. As a bonus, we get some points (while SK gets zero!).

It baffles me that you can achieve nothing in your career and even think about criticizing one of the greatest coaches in the world...

How do these guys leave the house with their heads held up.

as a starter I dont mind this. it's been a while since TM had a game and we need to get coordinated ... especially since we're seeing new faces (a good sign, btw)
but as we get closer to the actual games, we must have more rigorous tests.
but nothing like spain or italy or ... for asian qualifiers. I'm talking about the likes of austria, croatia, japan, paraguay, canada, ... etc.

as for te actual WC, however, I'd like to see a couple of big guns match ups NEAR THE WORLD CUP.

I doubt CQ cares about fifa ranking as much as he care about his own team and what is best for his team. mind you to say that friendly games are not cheap, IFF needs to budget well. If we had end less money to spend I would say CQ would have us play top teams all the time. He is not "bad saligheh" like the rest of IFF and Afazeli himself. in fact he is a very classy coach that would spend the money and would want best hotel transportation, jersey etc for his team,

These CLOWNS need to stop criticizing CQ as he has done more for our football than any of them will ever do in their life time.

Good, that's how Swiss became a #1 seed in the last WC.

Ok then lets break this down

                        1) Let's say Iran played such friendlies and got trashed by Spain, Italy, Germany, etc. We would bump down at the worst to the third pot. Our group could have been: Japan, Australia, UAE, Qatar, Syria. Situation avoided.

                        2) It's actually a lie. Playing friendlies against weak teams hurts your rankings more than anything. I believe the Dutch played a friendly with a weak country right before WC2014 and they won but got bumped down into Pot2 for Europe.

Yeahhhh Quieroz isn't one of the best coaches in the WORLD. I'd say best in Asia though.

I think we have seen a good combo of strong, ok, and weak opponents for the better half of CQ's tenure.

Decent/ok or strong teams we have played in friendlies:
                            - Chile
                            - Sweden
                            - Japan
                            - South Korea
                            - Trinadad & Tobago
                            - Belarus
                            - Montenegro
                            - Angola
                            - Tunisia
                            - Albania
                            - Nigeria (was canceled last minute but was scheduled and agreed to be played by CQ back in 2012)

Aside from these we played our friendlies against some minows yes, but we played them to prepare for teams with a similar style or similar level of play (in most cases, both). That's what makes these comments by afazeli so laughable, he acts is if we have been needing to prepare for germany or spain. Maybe one or two more good opponents would've been nice prior to the WC but nothing worthy of being critical about CQ.

I really dont see how there could be serious criticism brought towards CQ as long as he gets results and improves our football the way he has been doing the last 5 years a change

I remember back in 2004-2006 era Human Afazeli used to post here (Username exactly spelled same way) if I am not mistaken, from the old days when he was a somewhat active PFDC member, he often came across as a biased person.

He has always been one of CQ's biggest unfair critics, for he may even fit in the Mayeli Kohan category as CQ's arch enemy. Seems as if his spot in TM has been robbed by CQ and co. The man's coaching resume, including our U-23 team has been awfully terrible and pure failure, not to mention his horrendous track record as a coach in IPL and Azadegan league...

I for one given the circumstances of TM prefer playing the likes of Macedonia, over top gun world powerhouses. Look at yourselves how many of you folks made such huge laughing stock of SK for their humiliating loss against Spain. Do you really think over a million dollars sum paid to Spain was worth their while? You'd be totally out of your mind if you said yes, as Spain's playing-style has zero resemblance to any of SK's Asian counterparts in their WCQ group. Had a team like Macedonia paid that large sum to play a team like Spain, I would have called that move and its spending absolutely smart and prospective.
