I like both Human and CQ and I say there's nothing wrong with this statement. FIFA ranking has become very important as it determines seeding. So well done, CQ...

Hasn't CQ been complaining about not getting the friendlies he wants? We've never had good friendlies because of politics. France for example would never play us and if they did they'd make it political. When we played Sweden there was a huge circus before the game because of MEK clowns yelling and holding signs about how Iran is the biggest terrorist regime. The press even asked the swedish manager if its the right thing to play Iran and if the game should be canceled.
It's not easy for us to decide who we want to play against. I'm sure CQ would love to play 2nd tier european teams consistently. We just can't, it's hard to arrange and anyone who has been following Iranian football knows it. And then there's IFF, a federation that employs people who are too lazy to prepare and send documents on time. To put this on CQ, while it isn't even his job to arrange friendlies, is why Afazeli is full of shit.

I think it was a VERY STUPID statement from Afazeli. It is very clear this guy has an agenda against CQ. If what he says was right then Iran would not have played friendlies against S.Korea, Japan, Chile and Sweden in the past year. So it was just an unjustified personal attack on CQ. Shame on Afazeli!!! He better get himself on a strict diet instead of interferring with big issues that cont concern him.

So Daei was both TM coach and jersey sponsor? What a shit show that was. After CQ leaves the likes of Daei and GN will try to snake their way into TM again.

I don't find his statement so weird.
It is true that many of us would like TM to play stronger National teams but it is not happening. I am not quite sure of reason(s) for that but it may be one or a combination factors:

IFF incompetency & lack of Funds
Political consideration and unwillingness of some countries to play with Iran
                    CQ plan and consideration.

I don’t think Afazeli's statement is necessarily a critical view, but that's how he sees it.

As for giving chance to youth i agree with him. Few years back when criticizing CQ, one of my main issues was not giving chance to younger generation. It took him a while but he did start inviting young players and did it very well even exceeding some expectation.
Just because someone is King or Ayatollah does not mean he is infallible and immune from criticism. People should not afraid of expressing their view because others will resort to insults and anger.

So was it IFF who wanted Iran to play for rankings 3 months before the World Cup?

When Carlos continuely brought up the fact that we need to play against World Cup participants and we ended up setting up friendlies with teams such as Montenegro and Trinidad & Tobago.

I think it could be a combination of both. But IT IS understandable.

                          1) We play friendlies vs experienced European teams (who people write off automatically because in their minds they don't see a team like Macedonia or Romania to be a tough opposition) who are for the time being appropriate opponents. With a new and young squad going into the final round, they need to build chemistry. Maybe a team like Croatia or Australia isn't the best option as they will want to... [to point 2)]

                          2) Rankings. Of course Carlos wants to stay as #1 in Asia. Playing a team like Australia when we still haven't found our CAM and LB (for example) who will help carry to Russia 2018, is not the right choice at the moment. Australia will most likely go into the match play serious and aggressive football to get the W for rankings. Of course it won't be an easy game vs Iran, but Carlos is a chess player as well. He's not taking advantage of our team for his own benefits. Taj said it was his decision to change the Croatia friendly to another team. Whether Taj is speaking the truth or not, I too believe playing ba fast paced and physically strong opponents like Macedonia is good.

Who is this guy? I think it's crazy that he coached our U23 team, man is not even capable of coaching a little girl's team.
