I'd mentioned two names that could have been included:

    Kaveh Rezaei for Striker
    Aliyari for LB

Aliyari showed great promise during the Omid team's games a couple of years back onto last year. Great defending nd even greater going forward. Tall and physical as well. Now I dont know who'd get cut to make the final 23. But it would have been nice to award these two youngsters for their brilliant displays

I also hope both Rahmani and Rafiei get their start as soon as possible, and to settle , so we can finally say goodbye to Shojaei.
Of the senior/veterans 5-6 man list above age 30, I'd basically keep 2-3 of them, as investment for the WC. Guys like Hosseini, Montazeri, Ando. We certainly have more than reliable alternatives for Heidari, Shojaei, Beikzdeh, ..

      What makes you think that?

With all due respect to Beiravand, IMO the best Iranian goalie in the league last season was without a doubt Mazaheri! You base your argument on Beiravand starting against Macedonia in a period when Zobahan players weren't invited to TM because of ACL games! For all we know, Mazaheri could actually be the one taking TM number #1!

Having said that, because of Haghighi's experience, I don't think CQ will just put him aside any time soon. Unless he starts to makes some bad mistakes in important games.

The guy has to travel from Canada to play for TM. This has to be kept in mind. CQ invited him to Brazil for a reason. It makes no sense to say he occupied a WC space, and not acknowledge that we hadn't found Ghafouri, Rezaeian or Mahini at that time. Really, we were having Montazeri play RB often because we didn't have a strong RB at the time.

Saying Heydari was good leading into Brazil is also a statement made with rose-tinted glasses of the past, and forgets that people were complaining about him in 2012 and 2013. I think people have a selective memory to support their bashing of players.

Beita is not invited for 2 clear reasons and that is travel, and style of play. Many MLS teams were excited that Beitashour was a free agent, and most American fans know of his quality as RB. I flew to Iran from U.S. recently with a layover in Doha, and that flight is sinister. It took me days to adjust to the jet lag, both when I got there, and when I got back. It's much easier to call-up players who don't have to fly 16-20 hours to serve TM.

Another problem is, he isn't very tall, and he isn't a two-way wing-back. He is definitely strong moving forward, and honestly, if you watch him play, his crossing is more precise than Heydari and Rezaeian. The issue is that he doesn't have as strong of a defensive awareness, and isn't a rough and tumble player who goes head first into the body to steal the ball back. CQ likes those kinds of players, and you can see that in how many fouls we concede every game, even against Kyrgyzstan. Beitashour will back off a player and try to reach a foot to steal the ball. This is classic football defense and to say that he is bad for playing that style is wrong. There are many world class players who take this approach to defending to avoid unnecessary fouls. CQ likes the bulldozer-type players who will run the opposition over to get the ball. Beita is not that, and he isn't invited as a result.

Saying he is a bad player is bs, and shows me how biased some members still are and always will be. Some people are so quick to write off players without any attention to variables that surround that player.

There is a difference between saying someone is not the right choice for the coaches specific tactics, and saying that someone is an incapable player.

I see Danial Mahini winning the RB position in the future and sharing it with Rezaeian. Rezaeian will be the choice in a faster line-up, and Mahini will be the choice when we play stronger more physical opposition. It may not be Mahini, but he looks to have the capability to play that role. I see that Heydari and Ghafouri have many of the same shortcomings as Beitashour (age, defensive liabilities, etc.) , and I don't see them being major parts of the future plans. If Mahini has one or two more good performances like against Kyrgyzstan, he will be the new starter with Mohammadi, who I believe is the true LB we need, playing the opposite wing.
actually travel is NOT a valid reason whatsoever. beita himself stated in an interview when he decided to move to TFC a major factor for choosing TFC was bc he wanted to be 5.5 hours closer to Iran, he explixtly said it in his first interview at TFC. http://www.torontofc.ca/post/2016/01...ven-beitashour

Furthermore, how do you thing the japaneese players playing in western or central europe do it? almost their entire squad has very long travels. many of the ppl here like myself who root for him and want to see him in TM know he isn't a part bc of the reasons listed by Bachelot. He is way too stiff moving, inconsistent, and physically not what CQ is looking for AKA doesn't fit CQ's tactics. he is simply not good enough compared to montazeri or ghafouri for sure. No point in calling him up to ride the bench, that spot would be more useful to a guy like danial mahini or ramin rezaeian who can sit there and observe, at least they'll have something to gain and benefit from whereas for a veteran player like him with not too many years left has almost nothing to gain.
        Team Meli Iran
        Perspolis FC
        Malavan Bandar Anzali

You're right in that you can argue that Mazaheri was the best keeper last season but it doesn't mean he'll take over the #1 GK spot in Team Melli. CQ is a person who prefers continuity to the 'best' player at a given moment. Beiranvand has been on everyone's radar for nearly 3 years now and has performed fairly consistently throughout this time. During this time, he has become a regular invitee to the TM camp and has even featured in several matches.

On the other hand, there are more questions surrounding Mazaheri. Yes, he had a fantastic season but so have many other keepers in past seasons. Just in the past 5-6 seasons, we've had Ahmadi, Forouzan, Lak, Gordan, and Makani who performed exceptionally for a season or two and then dropped in form. It should be noted that at some point or another, all the mentioned names were TM invitees as well. In this group, Ahmadi was the most successful but mainly due to the circumstance of Rahmati suddenly dropping out of Team Melli.

Haghighi's lack of playing time is working against him and his international spot is far from secure. Mazaheri - despite his excellent season - has not yet displayed an extended duration of consistency. This will become evident once the new season begins and progresses. It should also be mentioned that he's been in the fewest of the Team Melli camps out of the three possible keepers and is also the most inexperienced. Beiranvand has been in the Team Melli frame for quite some time and has shown his (consistent) worth in the league. While it's not guaranteed that he would beat Mazaheri to the #1 spot if Haghighi is replaced, it's definitely the more plausible of the two options. Should Mazaheri get the start, it will reflect CQ's intense trust in him.

Agree with DD on Aliyari, him and Aghaei are bright talents at the LB position.

Don't worry guys at the end of the camps players like Khosrow Heydari will not make the 23 man roster anyway.

Mazaheri is for sure top 3 goalies for TM .
For the first time in my lifetime our TM has 2-3 really good players at the same level ,that can replace each other anytime they are needed
Defenitely the deepest TM we have ever had

Why would CQ cut the list at 23 man if there is no official friendlies planned?

                    Btw, when is this camp?

                        Regarding Soroudh Rafiei.

IF IFF has it's way Not only Soroush will not be able to play for TM , he won't be able to play for ACL games .
Last night during IFF meeting ( Directory Board) they voted for that and schedule to be finalized next session.

He is the only remaining player from the infamous list. if they finalize it it only apply to him ( unless report is not accurate or complete).

Great list overall, I hope some of these guys get a shot to prove themselves in some decent friendlies.
OK. But I still like TM and IFF show their appriciation to players. Unlike letting Nekunam depart so unceremoniously, we should do something for Ando and Shojaie. Good or bad/fat they have worked very hard for TM and shown fantastic personalities.

We should show them our gratitude.

Well, I guess you're right in that Beiravand has been on radar during longer time and been invited to TM before. Mazaheri however isn't very inexperienced either! The games in the ACL gained him immense international experience in a tournament he showed to be really good! While I think consistency is utterly important, for an important game you should still let the very best players of the country in their top forms play. So I would not be very surprised if Mazaheri in fact got to play ahead of Beiravand as much as I wouldn't be surprised (as per you say) Beiravand got to start because of his long term good form.

I would though be quite happily surprised to see Haghighi being replaced because as said I still don't think he will be put aside. At least not in the beginning!
