WCQ 02 and Asian cup 04 were a scandalous robberies, they are infamous among Iranians for being so. If you thought the game against Iraq was mad watch the game against China in 04 or the game against Bahrain in 02. Still, Iran finished 3rd in the Asian cup
WC 06 Iran was superb in qualifying, Hashemian shined brightly (I wouldn't put him on the same level of reverence as Daei, Azizi, Mahdavikia), but the team was utterly plagued with injuries before the tournament and Daei should not have been starting as he was far past it. Players weren't completely fit and trying to play. That was a group with a Portugal side that finished 4th and a Mexican side that took Argentina down to the wire.
Then came a period with crap Iranian managers, all completely out of their depth: Asian Cup 07 Ghalenoei tactics, lost on penalties to Korea and Talebloo (unfairly tbh) becomes a bit of a national joke, WCQ 2010 Daei was put in charge because of his quick success in the league but was far too young to take that job and never looked the part (and hasn't developed much since that time as a coach), AC11 Ghotbi (last seen in Thailand) they lose in the quarters against Korea again, this time in extra time.
And let's not pretend that Asian football of the 70's were as competitive as they are now.

It's the second week of September in year 1, 8th week of league just finished ... his career is done. I know he's Serb, but Novak Djokovic plays in same era as Federer and Nadal, he won't achieve anything. Time for him to pick up another sport.
I hope Ali Karimi goes back to Iran ...
