yeah. the fact they threw away a 3 goal lead says a lot about this team and its coach.

i just hope he picks the right club/league for the next stage of his career. it would be very disappointing if he's still at AZ in September.

Any news on how bad his injury is guy? Wonder if he is going to make the TM camp

I dont get why AZ didnt sack their hapless coach much earlier..!!? they must really be option-less on that front..??

when a relatively quality team doesnt bounce back from defeats and piss away so many commanding leads and loose out on nearly all vital fixtures ..! then the situation is clearly screaming for a change in leadership..!!
i have a feeling they even gonna retain the dude for next season too..!! i hope ARJ finds a suitor elswhere in europe and gtfo dodge this summer..!

How great would that be. Jahanbakhsh (who took the advice of the legend and his teammate Mehdi Mahdavikia) ends up going to HSV

I'm sure Mahdavikia is keeping in touch with Alireza. I'm willing to bet he's still looking after him and giving him good advice these days. Mahdavikia played in Germany for a long time.

Although times have changed since he played in the Bundesliga, I'm sure his knowledge of the league, of the clubs, the coaches will only benefit Jahanbakhsh to make his next move.

Alireza is such a hardworking and dedicated footballer. I respect him a lot. He also seems to be a down to earth and cool person as well. These types of players are rare to find in Iran. I hope he truly ends up where he's destined to be. It doesn't necessarily have to be Germany, it can be elsewhere. As long as he continues to progress and is successful we are all happy

                  Alireza Jahanbakhsh @ AZ Alkmaar | 2016/17

Jay-Roy Grot, an unproven forward with much worse statistics than Jahanbakhsh, is going to transfer to Fiorentina while he relegated with NEC.

Anyone dares to argue that European scouts are not racist?

Goes to show how much nationality plays a role in getting to top leagues. My Albanian friend also found it quite true while we were talking about that topic during yesterdays CL final.

I dunno. I think it's easy to fall into that mindset given the history or lack thereof middle eastern transfers to Europe but your comparison doesn't really work. AJ is a winger worth £10m. This guy is a young, cheap unproven striker who scouts may think has something that Fiorentina can nurture.

Then there's the fact that AJ is not EU, nor are Albanian players. That impacts squad selection. Clubs will only take a chance on foreign players if they really believe they can immediately improve their squad or are a good investment for the future. Over the years, the west's political issues with Iran haven't helped either. Clubs don't really want players on work permits, especially with the political climate so f**ked up these days and nobody knowing where Europe is heading.

Furthermore, the players are not blameless. Promising West Asian players that could play in Europe don't move because they can make as much money closer to home. Ali Karimi is a great example of that. He had the trials, the offers but chose the Arab money for the best part of his career. These guys aren't going to walk into the biggest clubs in Europe. If they get a transfer to a top league, they'll likely play for a club that only competes domestically. Sometime just competing to stay in that league.

Still, at least we have a player like AJ who has the mindset to want to prove himself in footballing terms. Who doesn't just chase the money. He may be at his best level now. Or his next club/league may be the pinnacle of his career. But at least he's given it a shot rather than celebrating goals against the likes of Al-Gharafa and thinking he's had a proper career. There are others who've had mixed results albeit a little later in their careers. Nekounam, Teymourian, Shojaei, Hajsafi, Ansarifard, Haghighi... but for every one of these guys we have hundreds of players that have wasted their careers away in IPL or the Arab leagues. It's disappointing.

Iran deserves better, TM deserves better.

Alireza's market value raised to €5.50 million euro's on Transfermarkt. That's a double increase of his previous value.

That makes him the 4th most expensive Iranian player of all times. Ahead of Dejagah who's highest market value was 5 Million euros in 2012 and just behind Mahdavikia who was worth 7.5 Million in 2004

                                Well deserved.
He had a solid season with a good number of both goals and assists.
