Figured that out for you: From December 2014 till December 2016, Iran have been the uninterrupted 1st of the AFC list. That's precisely 2 full years of consistency.

Fifa ranking means nothing. Look at Saudi Arabia jumping up every month for no reason. I am sure this ranking system is crooked.

That's not true, Japan was 1st in November 2014, and after that we got our 1st spot back in December 2014 and we're still on top.

I looked at all ranking lists in the period between November 2014 and December 2016.

That was before that.

The chart has it correct. But you are not looking at it in a correct way.

This isn't because of Iran's matches at all though...

It is because Cameroon (the nation that went ahead of us to 32nd) won the African Nations Cup, boosting their FIFA ranking.

FIFA rankings are great and all but I think our level of success should be measured based on things we haven't done in a long time like winning the Asian cup (been 41 yrs since) or things we have never done like getting past the group stage in the World Cup!!


I'm not trying to take anything away from our great performances under CQ like the Argentina game. And I understand that there is a correlation between the achievements I mentioned above and FIFA rankings but I'm just saying we shouldn't be overly excited about being ranked #1 in Asia on paper.
