Syria 80 and 8th in Asia. They managed to climb a lot.
Iraq 119 and 15th in Asia.

This FIFA ranking system seriously needs to be revised. In what universe is Syria better than Norway or Cyprus? Pretty sure both these countries would comfortably beat Syria

It is not perfect, but it is sufficiently accurate.

The FIFA ranking is perfect and great for as long as we are number 1 in Asia, and ahead of great teams. :P

the ranking is acurate, the dutch team is weak as hell now, neve seen them this weak, this is the worst they been so far

Agree the ranking is pretty accurate..of course it can't be perfect. This Syrian team is doing better than so many other teams and getting results...As for saying Cyprus and Norway NT are better...well until they do a head-head we wouldn't know. But as far as results go...Syria is killing it.

If Iran wins against Montenegro and Uzbekistan this month, they can potentially reach 19th in the next FIFA ranking!!

I say potentially because it really depends on results of other teams this month. Realistically I'd say we reach top 25 next month, if we win both matches.

I don't think that we need FIFA ranking to get good friendlies, but we need a competent Federation, who is willing to make the effort (and pay the bucks).

For example, countries from Eastern Europe, like Croatia, Serbia and Turkey would be realistic IF oyr Federation made the effort (and payed the bucks).
Countries who are neutral towards Iran such as Venezuela, Russia, Costa Rica or even Mexico would be realistic IF our Federation made the effort (and payed the bucks).

But in my 24 years of following Team Melli, i learned our Federation isn't competent and doesn't want to but money nor efforts in it.
The only reason we are doing great is the combination of raw talent and a fantastic coach.

I can only imagine the hights we can reach IF only we had a Federation that could....
But that goes for the whole of our nation : (
