      Masoud Shojaei @ Panionios FC | 2016-17

Shoajei appeared in 100 league games for Osasuna, over the course of 4 seasons.

He averaged 52 mins per league appearance during that time.

He played 38% of Osasuna's total games during his time with the club.

Bachelot could have a point. He was definitely not a starter for any long patches in a season.

Although he appeared in 100 league games, his minutes were not very high.

        ^ skewed data

In his first two seasons he got around 1800 minutes for each, which is like starting 70% of game.

He had one half and half season, around 1100 minutes, and then he got injured.

          Masoud Shojaei @ Panionios FC | 2016-17

People are giving a lot of discredit to Shojaei while he was Osasuna's key player and one of the elite midfielders in La Liga destroying defenses of Atletico Madrid, Valencia, Villareal...and then he got a severe injury which ruined his form.

off course, his style of football is highly technical, entertaining and super attractive to your avg. fan.
He was/Is Still the most Attractive and well dressed (GQ) TM Legionnaire with a very grounded and charming personality to boot, and to top it off he made significant inroads with quickly assimilating with the local culture and learning Spanish, hence became the attractive young face to the club's media at that time.
All of above which highly contributed to him winning that Osa FANS MVP award and if i recall also a very significant share of their Shirt Sales at the club's store throughout his stay. Probably those were big reasons why Osasuna mgmt kept him on books and renewed his initial contract, shortly after which he got his foot injury..!
anyways from my recollections in terms of football Playing Contribution perspective, Massoud was never anything but a limited minutes, utility, Bench player for Osa throughout his whole career there..!? i hardly recall him ever starting any game or at least no more than a handful of games in a season..?? and it also seemed to me as the few games that he did get the starting nod were often vs Rich, High Profile Opponents, hoping he could dazzle them with his fancy footwork and sucker them into buying him off Osa (in other words, they were putting him on the shop window.)..!
I dont know how to dig up such stats, but i think a good way to settle this discussion would be to look @ his actual Playing Minutes over the Minutes which he was not injured and actually available to play..!!?? Im fairly certain it would be a very, very low figure..!
The fact that he failed to garner a Better contract/transfer after his dismissal from Osa is also another clear proof to my earlier claims..!
There was a vote after every match with player ratings. I was on the board, and I recall clearly. His tally at the end of his first season was the highest of all the players. Fans don't vote for him because he is khoshtip.

He was a key player in his first season.

His injury issues curbed his minutes in subsequent seasons.
Right, as the world goes, is only in question between equals in power, while the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must.

Haji I think your memory is a bit skewed to say the least, I'd say most of those games were starting games. He was constantly doing positive things on the field I remember he was the most fouled player in la liga at one point....meaning teams had trouble maintaining him so he got his team plenty of set pieces through his skill and trickery let alone his assists and goals. Also to touch on the consistency of him featuring, it's also important to note he suffered a few nasty injuries (more towards the end of his career in Pamplona) that sidelined him for months at a time. I'm sure someone here can post a ton of vids to reinforce all of this

lol, wrong...! i pretty much followed Osa and our boys there as well as any of you in this place and Massoud was never really a consistently Key player in Osa and aside from occasional flashes of brilliance on the pitch, was not a game in-game out Regular Starter for Osa like Javaad and certainly was not Destroying Defenses in La liga on any sort of consistent basis..!!
the Bold, key club player description may fit Neku, (especially so prior to his knee injury) JuanFran, maybe even Punial..or perhaps others but Not really Massoud ..!
he had like only a 5mil or something? buy-out clause and like i said before Osa put him in every juicy matchups (shopping window) as possible, yet No other La Liga team showed much interest to sign him, especially so after his loooong layoff foot injury..! he signed for Las Palmas in segunda after his Osa spell and became more regular starter for them but still got benched often enough there too, and was Not able to get Re-signed after they narrowly failed to promote.
after that he was entertaining offers from even cyprus league ? i think? just to stay in Europe and eventually ended up in Gutter..!!
he did get more than his career average starting chances early on, in his osa debut season, but couldnt really deliver consistently enough to become a regular face in starting 11 after his limits as a player were found out, the following 2 years or so he remained pretty much a sub player from my recollections..!and i trust my memory over many of these shady wanna be official stat websites who seem to just make up any numbers for blanks in their historic info just to portray complete info??, (can anybody dig up official stats from Osasuna official website..? i would trust that far more than whats presented so far..! ) also back in da day, we used to have a couple of very professional and objective Osa fans as members here, one was OSASOUNIST other i dont recall !!? wish they were still active here, i woulda certainly believed their judgment on this dispute.
everyone who knows me well here, know i always call it as i see it and unlike many dont see everything through GRW shades..!
i actually highly admire Massoud as a player, and although been a critic of his game from time to time for legitimate reasons, i have't been a hater or such by any stretch of imagination and ive even come to his support many times when seemingly the whole board was getting unfairly on his back.
Today's Massoud, is indeed playing a far more refined and mature game, he plays far more intelligently nowadays and seem to understand his main role as an CM/AM a lot better now, he doesnt hold on to the ball way too long like he used to, doesnt make too many useless dribbles for sake of showing off, his defensive workrate and quality has much improved and he plays with far more confidence and vigor than he used to for club and country..! Today's massoud could well be a more reliable, regular starter for Osa perhaps, but he sure wasnt back in his supposed prime with that club..!
im fairly certain low playing milage and long term injury layoffs in prime of his career may have well contributed to his longevity as a professional player and along with his natural immense club n international experience been a huge reason for his late blossom as footballer..!
