As satisfying as the result was. I cant say the same about most of the game.
For example, I have no idea why CQ persisted with utterly useless Taromi for that long. He was below zero! Most coaches seeing seriously useless a player is would sub him in the first half itself , or at least at the halftime. But CQ wasted precious time to do this.
Keeping this zero for that long also meant Ghaters could mostly concentrate on nullifying our right flank, ie JB, where we were trying to build nearly 90% of our attacks!!! That's why I am questioning CQ's delay in subbing him.

I'm afraid years of playing in PG leagues have taken their toll on Dejagah. He was so slow and error prone that was not even a shadow of himself. He really needs to get out before he plummets even farther.
Adding a low key Ando to the mix explains why our midfield was not its usual self and quality was missing.

Other low performers were our fullbacks, Hajsafi and Rezaeian, who had a few good patches, but mostly under performed. Hajsafi, however, saved our arses with a well timed tackle inside our box, which a couple of uears back he wasnt capable of.

I was extremely impressed by JB, who even before he scored that beauty of a goal, was already my man of the match. His runs, dribbles, turns, crosses (except a corner), ... were all done well. And what a fantastic goal he scored. Simply magnificent.

Other top performers are Montazeri, another M.O.M. for me, as well as Hosseini, both of whom shored up our defense especially when our fullbacks left holes and spaces around.

Azmoun was satisfactory and did his job.
RGN didnt disappoint as he showed his old self of highly energetic, persistent player who never gives up on any ball. A rarity in today's football. Showed his instinct and opportunism we've come to expect from him.

As for the whole team performance, I'm ready to keep it easy as it was our first game, that too with no decent preparation. So we shdnt expect much in terms of team coordination and strategy. So the mostly sub par display can be forgiven. But also we can be encouraged how after shedding the useless weight of Taromi and bringing the reliable RGN, we did show a far better offense and pressing that did pay off. So there's something to build upon.

I'm hopeful we can and will improve on the display for the next game. Especially now that the first game jitters are done away with and we have a good, satisfying 3 points in the bag

I just cant understand why people are starting to bash nekounam... THi is what we need pure enthusiasm !!! This is what the qataris did to nekounam. I think a lot of u guys used to play football and all of u know how hard it is to play against a team who is insulting 90mins(or in that cas 104mins). Its not beein racist, well lets make it clear i am a racist i dont like arabs i just dont like them. But in that case its not about arabs its about this team its about how they tried to frustrade our players every second. they ar getting more pro in wasting time they dont wait until the last 15min the start it from min 0. Have u realized that they allways tried to bring a second ball in to the field to waste time? i mean i am very thankful for monsieur leconte for this gift but this son of b!tch was wasting time every second he had the oppurtinity.
This is not football this is not what people want to see, and i am so happy that this is not succesfull !!
All of you guys are right this would not happen in middle-europe, but hell i never want iranians be like germans (iam born and live in germany) or sth else. We are iranians we have love passion and "gheyrat" this is what u dont see in europe and people call professionalism. FUCK IT i want passion i want nekounam jumping on the field celebrating in front of these cockroaches and enjoy it.

Glad Qatari guy flicked the ball toward Gucci, Ansarifard was ready for a coffee break when ball drop on his lap. love Gucci's spirit wish has more players of his apetite and caliber.

It makes you wonder what would've happened if the Qatari defender hadn't tapped the ball toward Gucci. My bet is on Ansarifard missing a big chance to score.

I think DEJAGAH was fine until his injury and Taremi at least fought hard and helped on defence which currently looks week on flanks. But I would started Gucci over him.

No. I wanted to see Torabi get playing time, but maybe he suits TM better for China game.

As I said, it was proven fear is mother of all loses. Time for CQ to raise up the bars and show us beautiful attacking team that we are! 4-4-2 all the way!

With all respect to CQ, instead of being too passionate (which is soooo patriotic and awesome), he can lessen the pressure by using all the tools at hand. In Asian level, it is time to believe in our attacking capabilities. Remember CQ? Our situation is reverse now! Our defense is old and we lack numbers there, while we have such great CAM, CF,RS AND LS capabilities.

With all respect, instead of magnifying the might of the minnows, is to see our own strength! Mr, you are definitely a world class. But being a Portuguese does not entitle you to see Iran an average team that had to play with everyone with fear! Yes we gotta respect opponents, however calling the reject of the world; world stars!!!! Come on! So what if they have bunch of weakened brazilians on their side!!!! It shows how desperate they are!!!

                  HEY QUEIROZ ANSWER THIS:
Which of these so called star players would you let even near your team!!! So what if they are Brazilians or French or whatever. That doesn't make them the best of their country! A weak French passed the ball to Gucci so you are saved today. Or what can a weak Uruguyan can do!!! You went to Italy and played weak to average Italians there! And your team thrashed them all!!!! Sooooooo? So if Qatar employs the same players, isn't it better for your team? Isn't it easier to beat this team?

Qatar goes nowhere with this stupid naturalization. See the difference between talented UAE side and Qatar. Two different methods of scouting. UAE has worked to breed talent while Qatar has looked abroad. You should feel sorry for them Quieroz. Time to believe in this team and play with more confidence and qualify to second round of a World Cup.

If your team parks the bus all the time, all our fame will be that we only conceded 1 against such and such. Use your capabilities master. Iranians can be as good as anyone else!!!!
Gucci breaths goal. He should not be Sidelined!!! Plz! Iranians want beautiful play!

BY THE WAY, GREAT START; AWFUL STYLE BUT GREAT RESULT! Congrats to Iran

Hajsafi as a LB is the biggest mystery I have ever seen. Every coach continues to play him as LB, the past 3 TM coaches now? In Germany. I don't get it, are we the only people that see how shitty he is at LB? The guy is not a defender and he has so much to offer as a LM or wing. He is garbage at LB yet nothing seems to change and I don't get what the coaches see when they play him there.

Overall no on really performed exceptionally well. Strongest players probably were Reza he was a great sub obviously, Alireza did pretty well, Montazeri was great, and Ezattolahi was pretty good.

Hope to see Ghafouri as RB next game and Mohammadi as LB.

You don't need to feed any team any fuel for the next meeting. If this guy really wants to play for bigger clubs he needs to watch some interviews done by professionals. And not to speak to reports like they are your buddies.Qatar is going to go after him.I am sure qatari's already have heard his comments fully by now.
Absoultly nothing wrong with his comments, on the contrary excellent comments, very naturally and smart...

Hajisafi just doesn't have "it". He can't make a simple cross at times. He consistently gets clear shots on target and is a mile off. He just happens to be the best we have. I've never really liked him and found him overhyped- which is why he can't do better than a 2nd division Bundesliga team. His experience at his age are definitely assets though.

I think the reason CQ keeps using Hajsafi at LB is due to Hajsafi's experience and tenure at TM. In other words, CQ doesnt want to give the spot to someone new or inexperienced. But here's the problem. How can he expect the alternatives to gain the much required experience if he doesnt allow them to play?

This vicious cycle needs to be broken. We have three other players: aghaei, mohamadi and Ansari. And they do play at this position in their clubs. Lets trust one of them and we may be rewarded (with at least less defensive errors)

this is the time to introduce new players...it's hard to bring in players deep into qualification. the good news is that Shojaei and Heydari have been quietly swept aside...
