According to Taj, we will play Togo before the Russia friendly. It looks like the game will take place in Russia.

      5th October - vs. Togo
      10th Ocotber - vs. Russia

Taj said that they looked for an available African opponent and Togo would be the best African team with 14 legionnaires. He also said that IFF will plan 8 friendly games.

They had a decent team in 2006 which qualified to WC, but now playing mediocre football. Still a decent team for our preparation before playing Russ

                  Most recent results:

                  Ivory Coast 0–0 Togo
                  Morocco 3–1 Togo

                  Libya 0–0 Togo
                  Egypt 3–0 Togo
                  Togo 2–0 Comoros
                  Algeria 1–0 Togo

it says we play great football particularly when your opponents score only 2 goals in a meaningless game.

We had a +8 goal differential which was the best in our group and 2nd best in all of Asia behind Japan's +10 GD. Those are facts.

We had the best defense in Asia because the entire team played great defensively and not just our 4 defenders. When the entire team focuses on defense, you will not have high scoring games. We have had high scoring teams in the past that have not qualified for the WC so it's really not about the number of goals a team can score. In fact we have never had back-to-back WC qualification in our history.

Now we do have a weakness, and it's not centered around one given player. We are not a great come from behind team and the reason for our success in the qualifiers was that except for the Syria and Turkmenistan game we never had to overcome a deficit. We have to show that the team will not fall apart if we have to come from behind. This is why those friendlies are needed and why I would even consider this tie against Syria a positive outcome given that it shows where improvements are needed.

The last two matches were of immense value to the team's experiences. In Korea we had to do with 10 men for 40 minutes, and against Syria we had to come from behind. If anything, this is what makes us stronger and more prepared for the World Cup.

Looking forward to see who the other 6 opponents are going to be for the friendly matches.

Togo is a good friendly considering most African, European, CONMEBOL and CONCACAF countries will still be busy with qualifiers in October.
More interested in who we play in November and March next year.

No one will agree to a friendly with us while they are still trying to qualify for the world cup.

Russia and Togo (and to an extent Syria and South korea) are good preparations for now.

Once the draw comes out in December, teams will start scrambling to play others who will be similar to their opponents.

Not to mention we will likely have 3 friendlies if not more during our camp in Russia. That is 7 friendlies so far.

If we manage to get two more from December to May, then we will be golden.

Mexico, Belgium, Serbia etc are 100% (or almost) qualified we already know more or less who won't be concerned by play off in november.

We should try to play Catalunya in december (like they do every year). They played Tunisia last year. And we played Galicia before too.

Good thing is that teams that get grouped with Saudi Arabia will want to play TM ( Middle Eastern style of play) so we should have 2-3 friendly request right there!...
