And now disaster as Uzbekistan win their away game vs Qatar to top the group with 6 points. We made it difficult for ourselves already, I don't understand the people that are fine with the draw, 3 points were there for the taking, China was like begging to be scored on and we were lacking major urgency as if CQ actually meant the fact that China was in front of us to qualify , Azmoun was very disappointing and should finish at least one of the 3-4 chances he had in the air or on his weak foot. Too many crosses when it was clear that it wasn't working for so long and our players just couldn't put one on target, no change of strategy whatsoever.
I am kinda nervous already right now as we really need to win in Tashkent now. We badly wasted 2 points today

Don't know how accurate they are, but I got other stats from both games as well.

Successful teams have this thing called ''PLANS'' that take care of all the moves that ought to lead to a good chance to score a goal. Players duties, positions, timing, ... are all laid out and worked on.
I am not saying every plan must result in a goal scored. But you can see moves are rehearsed and there is an organization about them.
But to always hoof up the ball HOPING for a miracle or a mistake is NOT planning. That's just foolish.
Now, in a game a coach may lay out a couple of tactics to score. Sometimes they are nullified and counter-measures are employed. Here it is the COACH's responsibility to come in and grab hold of the game. In the form of changing positions, changing formations, substitutions, reminding and dictating new commands, ... .
CQ is really not that strong in this dept.
Dont confuse it with his expertise in PREPARING a team. I am quite impressed with what he does in all the days and weeks leading up to a game (except perhaps the formations). That's why Fergie relied on him in Man U. He is a pretty great assistant coach.
But the HEAD coach duties are far more. Like in-game leadership, ... etc. It is here that he leaves us wanting more.
I'm also a bit disturbed by the fact that he didn't refer to Zhang Yuning by his name in the post match interview (only by his number) and that he seemed surprised he gave our defenders a hard time - the guy is China's only Legionnaire and plays in Eredivisie but it seems like CQ didn't know that!
We're definitely going to need a lot more creativity from him in the next two matches not to mention better studying the opponents. His suggestion that he likes to see Iran and China go through this group gave me a good chuckle too!

its so funny seeing how emotional iranian fans are, man its been a while
so many of you kiss CQ's feet when he qualified us to the WC, took on argentina for 90 minutes, beat chile, helped us get to the #1 team in asia and had 30 heart attacks when he wanted to leave......and now you people are back to square 1 where you were in 2012 after we lost to lebanon calling for CQs head acting like this game was the end of the world if JB or azmoun could have finished their sitters you wouldn't even be saying such outlandish/emotional non-sense. when will you ppl ever change?!
we said it a million times and if you've followed TM even for 2-3 years, you'd know that there is always bumps in the road (FOR WHATEVER REASON OR FOR NON AT ALL), this was one of those games where really nothing was going our way and our boys just looked out of it. Every team has one of those games from time to time, and its better this happened away in china vs dropping points at home. plz for the love of god, stop the emotional bs!Team Meli Iran

People need to calm down a bit. Two games played and we are undefeated and in first place.
Winning away games in Asia is not easy given the difference in climate/pitch/time and all the game surroundings going from country to country. When you have turf flying over player's heads, you know the pitch has to be atrocious. The humidity was also a big factor. Just by looking at the player's faces, you could tell it was affecting them.
Having said that, yes, we should have beaten this team. At the same time, you also have to play not to lose. A 1 point from an away match is acceptable. A loss would have been devastating to us.
As for the player performances, I think our biggest concern is the GK spot. Beiranvand doesn't always make good judgments on when to exit the goal. Too many balls getting punched out instead of trying to keep possession resulting in the Chinese players getting extra chances. Too many sloppy catches on the ground giving up dangerous 2nd opportunities. To his credit, his ball distribution is just awesome.
Our defenders were solid. Hosseini and company did well, as usual. I liked Milad's game and I think his speed was very valuable in this game.
Amiri and JB had below average games. Too many crosses resulting in turnovers. I don't understand why our football players are still cross happy.
Shojaei had a good game until mid-way through the 2nd half. This team badly needs a play maker and the fact that we still have to rely on a 33 year old Shojaei, says alot. Not having Ashkan did hurt us.“It is easier to fool the people, than to convince them they have been fooled." - Mark Twain

In WC qualification, a DRAW away from home is a good result.
We didn't finish, otherwise could have easily won this with 2 clear goals.
Pitch looked terrible ... and so did most of our players when they had the last shot on goal.
SMH
China should consider themselves lucky not to have lost. They would have had 0 points by now.

Some people here keep saying TM doesn't play beautiful or can't keep the ball for long.
The truth of the matter is and everyone know this yet we like to ignore it...when you have no friendlies to get everyone coordinated and used to each other - you will have to be very cautious in these games and not be risky. That's why TM plays very defensive and the strategy is to be patient and score from opponents mistakes or set pieces and it has been working for us.
We are playing with what we have- we don't have super stars , we are only good as a team...we don't have a solid play maker to rely on and we have a very young team that's not very experienced. If we play risky and play attacking - we would not get consistent results. Bottom line is we are getting the crucial points we need and that's all it matters.
