I am not insulted since it's very good odds to bet on Iran who as we know can
compete with any of these teams. But the general betting public dose not have
the inside info we have and they think Iran is a fluke like Iceland in the Euros.
So the bookies play them for suckers!

Those people who know how the bookie odds work, know that betting odds have very (very) little to do with what the bookies think or with what the general public thinks, and has everything to do with what those who actually ***PLACE*** bets think. As a bookie, your goal is to raise or lower the odds to the point that your risk is 0, and you just make the commission on bets. In other words as more people bet on a given outcome, you lower the return for that outcome so that you entice more people to bet on another outcome. In this way, no matter who wins at the end, the bookies will make their commissions and don't lose any money.

So as we read the odds, we should think this: "Most people who are placing bets think Russia is going to win the tournament. Least number of people who are placing bets think Iran is going to win the tournament."

If we want to change the odds in Iran's favor, we need to place bets on Iran winning. The payoff is pretty good right now, and anyone who places a bet on Iran would make a killing if Iran wins, which is quite possible, but but I am not a ghomarbaz!

The probability that iran wins vs russia is very little (not wrong actually). The probability that iran wins the match vs russia and the final match is even more unlikely.

Wheras one of the 2 teams Portugal or Argentina has more chance to advace to the final and win the final match.

If one of the 2 teams portugal or argentina had to play russia first instead of iran, that one country would get the odds that iran has right now.

Maybe they are thinking rational at the end and are not stupids as we think they are.

My impression as an impartial outsider was that Iran was a world-level powerhouse in futzal. Well, behind the likes of Brasil, Spain, etc, but still stronger than Russia.

Exactly my point in my previous post. We Iranians tend to think that all these countries are our brothers and still have a connection to Iran or at least Persian culture which is wrong. I traveled many times in that region and honestly, no one cares. So we shouldn't expect any brother feeling from the referee. Let's just hope he'll be impartial and that's it.
