Regarding the odds:
Imagine Iran-Russia playing four times. We assume that Russia wins 3 out of 4 matches, making 75% (Iran therefore 25%). As Russia is the overall favourite we would also assume that the probability of winning the final game is 60% for Russia and 40% for any of the remaining teams from the other semifinal whose level is pretty close. The overall chance of winning the tournament is therefore 0.75 * 0.6 = 0.45 = 45%. Iran on the other hand would have (if we reach the final) a 50% chance of winning it regardless of the oppononent, making 0.25 * 0.5 = 12.5% overall probability. The remaining 42.5% are divded between Argentine and Portugal, making an overall chance of about 21% for each of them.
This means: Russias probability of winning is more than three times higher than Irans (odds reflect this by 7:2 so 3.5 higher probability for Russia). Comparable odds and relations also for Portugal and Argentine (Russia 2.02, Portugal 3.33, Argentina 4.20, Iran 7.00)
These calculations are not flawless but give an idea of how these odds reflect these probabilites.Comment
