I actually think Mehdi Taremi was quite solid in this match... Even though Vahid Amiri was our worst player, he did create the free kick which led to the Seyd Jalal goal...

Just saw the game. Very satisfied with the performance and leading up to the match, CQs positive take on TM and our strengths was very welcoming. He gave nothing away but provided a nice morale booster.

Gopd game, Rezaeian for all his faults was impressive, particularly in the first half.

Iran has no competent central midfielder. I am not talking about an attacking midfielder that basically plays as a withdrawn forward. I am talking about a field general that is comfortable in the middle of the field. Our link between offense and defense is non existent so all our attacks are basically long balls and poor runs. We really need someone that is comfortable directing the team.

In Ezza surely we have one of the best prospects in the continent for that role. It's a very difficult role hence why experience is so crucial for it but it's certainly not an area we should be too worried about.

Our defense and head clearances are by far the best I have seen in Asia and possibly top 5 in the world. Every player knows how to defend, how to put pressure, how to clear, how to switch nicely (in its own way it is very beautiful to watch -- I personally think defending world class is much harder job than attacking world class).

The players that stood out today
Positively: Hosseini, Shojaei, Hajsafi, Rezaeian, PAG, Ezza
            Negatively: Amiri, Azmoun, Gucci

In-between: Mimo (slightly pissed off at him for the shitty throws...wtf man. Although his defending was pretty good), Taremi (Good clearances and ball work and passing...needs to work on his focus though...he has nice brilliant moments and then losses his focus again and I think that is were most fans here give him low score)

            Rest were good/average imo
            EAT. SLEEP. TM. REPEAT.

Iran was good. But I think Uzbekistan is not a good team at all. People are just hyping them up. They didn't have 1 single legitimate scoring chance all game and this was with Iran just defending from the second half on. I hope we no longer see any more hype articles about Uzbekistan.

As for team meli, they were super aggresive from minute 1 to 30ish. They were so nice to watch during this time. I understand why cq decided to make team meli defend the entire second half but I wish we could see them attack a little more. As for our defense, it was great as it usually is. Overall happy with team meli's performance.

Smart move by CQ to have Hajsafi in as the DM. He is a good enough defender and is able to complement Ezatollahi with his above average ball distribution. Maybe we have found our Nekounam-lite :-)

Shojaei had a solid game and besides the assist, he was also able to draw fouls which does not show up in the stat sheets but is certainly valuable enough for CQ to still go to him.

Mohammadi had a below average game. Made some good stops defensively, but, clearly he's not a Pouladi when it comes to defensive stops. He really needs to work on his upper and lower body strength. He's young, so he will grow stronger. I think Mohammadi really excels in an open game with his speed but we just did not see that MF-LB passing game from that side of the field.

Hosseini was the best player on the field. He is a defensive wall in the field and what a thrill it is to see him score. Really deserving player.

outside of Bosnia, which other team has been able to pull apart our defense? Some of the players have changed, but, any team that can hold Argentina to 0 goals in 90 minutes has to be given some credit for their defensive game plan. Look at qatar today. They were up by 1 goal, and ended up losing by 1. If we make it to the WorldCup, it will be because of our defensive dominance.

Also have to remember that Ben Williams had a reasonable game. Not many cards, in fact none for iran, he might have allowed some fouls on Iran go unpunished but overall it was good officiating even when we all thought he will be biased. So 7.5 for him

Everyone is always hating on Amiri but you got to figure that CQ sees something in him to give him the start and allow him to play the whole 90min. Well maybe because thats what he does. He gives you 90min of none stop flowing. We dont seem to have the players km tracker but im sure CQ does. To me Amiri covers alot of ground and doesnt shy away. Hes not the most gifted guy on the squad but hes natural fitness is high. He not strong player but he is aggressive enough on the pitch. He has good composure with the ball and his decision making isnt that bad either. Also his dribbling and passing are decent enough add that with good pace and agility and Amiri is a guy you want playing.

One thing Ive learned is, dont doubt CQ.

TM goal against Uzbekistan with arabic commentary. Always funny to hear arabs saying "Montakhab Al-Irani" and "Yosajel"

If you are hating on Amiri and Taremi you do not understand this is a team sport. They executed the plan CQ had for them perfectly. Their role wasn't to score goals (although they both could have done better in attack) but if you actually watch the match you will s they completely shut out the Uzbek wing...trust in CQ guys!

Guys I was also really impressed with how calm CQ and our coaching staff and players on the bench were unlike the first 2 games. I think this is how it should be moving forward. Our players weren't complaining much on the field either and were fully focused on the game. I think Carlos had prepare them pretty well.
