Wow, that was one heck of a performance. I was so glad to see the resiliency and fight in our team - not that its new, its just something that never gets old.
What stood out to me the most was our boys fitness levels and physical dominance...its just remarkable seeing how we would run out of gas by minute 60-70 5-6 years ago but now after 90 minutes we got guys like rezaeian and milad mo who can still play another 90 (also was impressed with how well amiri ran today, unlike vs UZB)! Almost all of our 50/50 challenges were one by our boys...PAG's athleticism to leap over those big korean forwards and win every ball was just a joy to watch. Having 3 fitness coaches has REALLY paid off I guess
0 shots on goal in two games, thats just nuts. koreans were slightly more patient than UZB and were trying to work small passes in to get close to our goal but even they were getting frustrated and towards the end had to resort to the same thing UZB did for the entire second half which was to take those outside shots from 30 or so yards out.
Ratings:
Beiranvand - 7.5 - cool and confident again, but still not challenged with a shot on goal thanks to our D. Came out for balls very well and had some great kicks and throws that lead to goal scoring chances.
Rezaeian - 8 - back to back really impressive games. connected very well with dejagah and JB.
Hosseini - 8 - another seyyed jalal esque performance.
PAG - 9 - my MOM honestly. This dude looked to be on a level above everyone else today IMO....he won EVERYTHING. his speed for a CB is rare, his athleticism is above asian standard, and his marking is perfect. between him and seyyed jalal, there were no holes in our D and really aggravated ji dong won and kim shin wook.
Milad Mo - 8 - non stop running from him as always and did a decent job of containing the SK wingers.
Ezzi - 7.5 - like PAG and hosseini, left no holes in his area and gave no SK player any time on the ball. he did his job well today defensively. didn't commit any silly fouls like he was in his first few games and also made safe decisions. I noticed he sometimes takes silly risks in dangerous areas but the last two games I did not see that from him. Also like PAG a very athletic dude who's skill set is pretty much unmatched by anyone else in our squad.
Hajsafi - 8 - not surprised he is doing this well as a DM....he was pretty much playing as a CM during the WC and did great there I'm surprised it took CQ this long to play him there again. like ezzi didn't take any unnecessary risks and produced a nice and flowing passing game with the rest of the team. a few crucial tackles from him too I wouldn't be surprised to see CQ go with him in this post again.
Dejagah - 8.5 - just brilliant today. best TM performance by him in a while.....he was toying with the korean defense and showed brilliant technique. Reminded all of his haters why he is there, when in form he is easily one of the best we have and he showed it today.
JB - 8.5 - created a number of goal scoring chances and missed an easy one himself but that was more bc of a mis-Q with sardar. he did a great job of coming back and helping out on defense and getting counter attacks started.....ran full force for the entirety he was on the pitch and challenged korean defenders who had a hard time marking him.
Amiri - 7.5 - this guy must have won at least 7-8 fouls today. he was awesome, I understand why CQ likes him given he comes back on D and helps and also wins so many fouls. on his good days he can be effective, unfortunately we just don't see enough of it. today, thankfully, we saw it though.
Azmoun - 7 - aside from his goal and off the ball pressure I thought he was the only one on the field who looked flat. He had a brilliant touch which would have lead to a 1v1 for rezaeian but instead of touching the ball out wide he decided to go right into the SK CB and lose the ball. he did that numerous times today and did the same thing vs UZB. of course his goal was great and top class but we cannot fool ourselves....he needs to do much better and serve his team mates more and also not squander easy chances in front of goal.
CQ - 20 - this man is simply brilliant. the improvements we have seen over our long term investment we have made in him has paid off big time, I cant remember a time where I saw TM shut down a very solid asian team like UZB and an asian heavyweight in SK the way he has these last two games. Kudos to our boys for executing his brilliant plan...that is exactly how the game has to be played. If we just could take better advantage of our chances we would have scored 3-4 goals at least.Team Meli Iran

And just look again at un-selfish Rezaian, makes the pass instead of trying to go himself. Other players should open up their eyes and see his fantastic presence beside them.

He's starting because he went to Europe. Carlos rewards this type of behaviour.
