Majestical performance... way above Asian Level!
CQ is one hell of a GENIUS! It takes a whole book to write down what exactly he has done in the last years for us to reach this level - is there anyone out there still doubting his quality? A huge "headshaking" at those who demanded his resignation during all the years, proving they know nothing about the game of football and what it takes to build a TEAM for the future.

3/4 years ago some were going crazy, calling TM a 2nd tier team and over praising Uzbekistan as the new mighty powerhouse and making Korea look undefeatable. Years later exactly these 2 teams struggled to even create one chance against us, while we escaped with the full 6 points. See the improvement under CQ?

This was the best TM defense ever as Korea did not have 1, fucking 1!!!, chance - the ENTIRE game!!! SOUTH KOREA, with all their "super" disciplined players across whole Europe! Let that sink in, not even one real shot on goal! Probably even with Mayeli Kohan in goal we wouldn’t have conceded one (not trying to take away Beiranvand's quality). This team looked so damn focused and strong-willed - almost scary (for the opponent) how everyone was a BOSS, dominant and ruthless! This is unseen and short of historical... really should have won at least 3-0, which takes us to the only flaw today = our finishing.

      Other points:

      - Gheyrat Irani is not match able, I honestly expected more fighting spirit by the Korean after being defeated 3 times in a row and talking shit about us over and over again.

      - Milad Mohammadi showed GREAT potential, absolutely loved his fighting spirit. Despite lacking experience, several times he owned and dominated his counterpart - keeping the defense clear and always ready to run forward at full speed to help the offense as well. Hence Hajsafi also finally moved to his true position and we saw the result...

      - Never was a fan of Amiri - 1st half proved me right, 2nd half however he proved me wrong and reminded me what CQ sees in him. Cashkan was quite fine as well, but just not the "Dejagah" he used to be, probably will never be anyway. Jahanbakhsh finally showing his brilliance at TM as well, reaching top form in the 2nd half by easily running over all Koreans - let's not ignore his vision on the winning goal.

      - but the one who deserves to be mentioned the most is our Hollywood looking Ramin Rezaeian. Why? Because he got hated a lot by some, so it's great to see that he is finally proving all wrong showing his true quality. Never understood the people who made fun of him when they claimed he could never play in Europe and should not play in TM - I tempered to go back and bump those posts. Rezaeian despite having not played one game this season was a tornado, constantly running up and down with passion like he usualy does. His crosses improved and he acts much smarter as well - just felt very bad for him when Azmoun didn’t pass the ball to him. Rezaeian actually is a goal scorer as well from what we have seen at club level, surely that would be a good chance at least.

      - As much as we want to praise this team, let's not fully close our eyes and point out the few mistakes as well. What annoys me is how selfish Azmoun is these days, way too arrogant and out of from! Some touches were poor as well; those passes from Hajsafi & JB could have been handled better - but still damesh garm for scoring on a bad day with such a clinical & world-class finish. The "boy" can be a superstar one day, but still needs to grow to a "man". No hate, but love - just saying he needs to keep up. Overall we need to improve our finishing, against stronger team this 1-0 lead could haunt us - we need to go for the 2nd as well!

4 games, 0 goals conceded - in fact I think Beiranvand didn't have to make one save. Only Iran, Australia and the 8-oers are undefeated currently.
Today, with confidence, I can say: we are not only ranked as #1 in Asia on paper - we truly are the best in Asia at this point!

      This.

He got his rematch and lost again, even worse than in the friendly.

If you squinted your eyes and turned off the volume and ignored the silly, irrelevant banners in the stands, you'd be forgiven to think you were watching a game between South Korea and Germany. Yes finally we witnessed a completely disciplined, well rounded, comfortably in control game by TM against a very good side. (Some may opine that this version of Korea may not be its best or strongst. But nevertheless it has the stars and the pedigree and the class of Korea we've come to expect .. oh so very often through the years)

Let me start by crediting this abnormally disciplined performance to its architect, CQ. Yes, I've had some problems with a few issues with him and haven't been bowled over like many others by him. But credit ought to be given when due. And by God he deserves it this time.

Such organization and composure throughout the pitch is pretty much unprecedented in TM, no matter which edition or year. The Koreans may bring up difference in altitude or even sillier matters like polution and whatnot, but the fact is they were second best literally anywhere in the pitch, no matter how big their ego or how much association with european club football. Thy simply had no answer to any questions we put through to them.

The sheer dominance of Iran is refelcted in one stat that saw as many as 7 shots (out of 12-14?) On target, against none for Korea, which included Spurs' new star, Son. The player who was rendered utterly hapless that ended up being subbed out.

What the scoreline dos not reflect is the number of 100% chances we had that could have very easily seen margin of 4 goals instead of 1. A 4-0 would not have been unfair whatsoever.

From the continuing saga of shut-outs by Beiranvand, to the strength and control of defense by PAG - Hosseini duo who ruled the box. To the revelation of both fullbacks, Rezaeian and Mohamadi (due to whom we can breath a sigh of relief at LB, hopefully for many many years to come). Our defense was simply impeccable and impenetrable. Even when the Koreans threw their "kitchen sink" at us with their tall shinwook who, despite having a few inches over any of our players, met with he same fate as Son; useless. Mainly due to PAG who tagged him in the box or Ezatolahi outside the box.

Midfield saw finally Hajsafi leave the confounded LB post and play in the belt, where he's more comfortable and useful. Paired with Ezatolahi who's showing years of maturity beyond his age.

Our wingers were very energetic and Amiri on the left flank looked a totally new player from the game in China. He also had a few brilliant flashes in winning balls back and even and very close to score.
JB was his explosive, industrious and exciting self and only tough luck and last gasp defending denied him two extremely deserving goals.

Dejagah was pretty good. Despite a few missteps that can be attributed to playing in the swamp of Persian Gulf leagues. But ran the middle well, supplied balls ad helped when he could and where needed.

Azmoun also was quite satisfactory, especially his opportunistic goal that set Iran alight. But he still has ways to learn to be a team player and a complete forward, who also does serve his mates. His selfish act near the end of second half denied us a massive opportunity to score. If only he had passed to the cost and open Rezaeian!

The subs also did their job and Ando controlled the midfield when Koreans were piling on the pressure to equalize. I am still not convinced about Taromi by am willing to give him a few more games before deciding if he belongs to TM or is it mere hype because he plays for IRAN's most popular club.

CQ's masterstroke of rotating the front lines for two back to back games really clicked. From the comprehensive game in Uzbekistan to this delight of a game against our traditional Asian rival.
If this trend continues we may even see the most comfortable WC qualifications we've ever experienced with maybe a game to spare.

Finally, the fact that we won and people showed jubilation and joy on the day the oppressive regime tried its best to deny the people the little venue for release and happiness they sorely lack in life, truly made my day.

BTW guys, aside from the 4 consecutive wins against Korea since 2014 qualification, we have lost to Korea only one time in the past 10 years and that was in the Asian Cup in Qatar in 2011!

              Our record against them since January 2006 is: 6W - 4D - 1L

And they've managed to beat us only once in WCQ in the whole history of the rivalry dating back to 1958 - interestingly, that was also in Qatar (94 qualification):

Our all time record against them in WCQ is: 3W - 4D - 1L

No, I noticed that too... he looked liked he was really struggling in the 2nd half and everytime the camera zoomed in on him he looked physically exhausted.

Someone said he recently had an operation because of breathing problems so that may explain a lot - I've never found him to be a 90 minute player anyway.

I hope CQ rotates him more with Gucci and Karim in the 2nd half of the upcoming matches... or at least from minute 60 or something.

What is a bit peculiar is that he didn't smile/laugh after he scored his goal....he did look off. We all wish him better days ahead of course...

                      HAHA.

Uzbekistan doesn't always beat Iran, but when it does, it does it in Tehran.

I think this may have had something to do with the occasion (i.e. religious edict from up on high). But I agree he has looked better.

                          Beiranvand - 7

                          Rezaeian - 8

                          Pouraliganji - 8
                          Mohammadi - 7

                          Hajsafi - 8
                          Ezzatolahi - 8
                          Jahanbakhsh - 8
                          Dejagah -
                          Amiri - 7

Azmoun - 7 (his goal was great, his positioning and strength and pace was great, but his last touch was really bad today - otherwise he'd be Man of the Match)
                          ----------------------------
                          Teymourian - 6
                          Taremi - 6

The best I've seen TM play over a whole game since 2005 versus Japan in Tehran.
Its such a strange feeling to watch TM and have them make the right choices and dominate and counter every move the opponent makes.
We had prolonged periods of passing and possession against a team which always plays its best against us.

Yes, this Korea team looked weak, but that's because TM had done its homework. Big congrats are in order for the analysis team and players for implementing the plan.

Dejagah, Ezatollahi and Hajsafi were great.
Ezatollahi would break up the Korean play, Hajsafi would distribute and Dejagah would create space. Phenomenal. If Dejagah was speedier I would have rated him much higher.

The whole flow of the game was wonderful. Great aggression and speed on every play - winning 50/50 balls, always having support, minimal mistakes.

Could have scored many many more!

Also, the game next month will be very difficult. Syria is a team that really knows how to park the bus and counter. TM will have to be patient and really be on point in the finishing game. They cannot be underestimated. TM usually does bad against the weaker teams, not the big boys.

Also Azmoun's touch on the goal - world class!

                          Comment

Everyone played great, except Sardar. he was OK.just not great. His bad decision not to pass to Rezaeian was a repeat of what he did against Uzbekistan when he decided not to pass the ball to a WIDE open Amiri. that gets a low score from from no matter how great he played the rest of the game. I wonder if he ever gets reminded by his coach about this.

I also thought that Carlos waited a bit too long to make his subs and he should have made a third sub as well. Taremi should have replaced Sardar at 60 or 65 minute. Ashkan wasn't able to walk towards the end.

Koreans looked so intimidated by the atmosphere of Azadi stadium. Maybe the "Who is Hossein" banner really did it's job. they did not look like South Korea AT ALL.. so while credit has to be given to our team (not to the extend that some people are doing here), but we also have to be cautious not to sweep our weaknesses under the rug.

Ehsan Hajsafi's position on the field is finally sealed. He is our midfielder until further notice!!
but he should stop taking the corner kicks. Ashkan, when available, is much better. Or Hajsafi has to practice his corner kicks a bit more.

Iranian football fans can confidently claim that their national team displays quality football now.

South Korea traveled to Tehran to face Iran in an Asian World Cup qualifying match Tuesday, with an eye on ending a winless drought that has last for more than four decades.

23 years is how long it has been since South Korea beat us in World Cup qualification matches (1993 in Qatar).
