U-20 World Cup 2017

Here are some interesting stats:

Going by 2 of the recent TM U19-20 squads, if we look at the players career paths, we can obviously see that they either:
- Become TM regular (of which some end up in Europe)
- Become a PGPL regular player (of which some become "stars" of the league)
- Get lost in the lower divisions of Iranian football.

So looking at the last 2 squads, we can see that among the 23 players, only around 11 become PGPL regulars (!!), of which around 5-7 become top players at some point in the league. Now among those 23 guys, only usually 3 become TM regular call-ups, of which 1 or 2 transfer to Europe.

Of course, nothing is a guarantee and it can depend of the talent level of the team, especially now that PGL teams give much more playing time to U20 players, but still those stats were pretty similar for both 2012 and 2010 squads. The pattern is quite similar for previous ones too

My guess would be that none of the Gks will ever make TM even tho Mirzazad was kinda "discovered" TM wise by CQ and assisted to one of the TM camps. I'd say Shekari, Noorafkan, Derakhshanmehr and Gholami may be the only TM regular call-ups that we will see in couple of years

It speaks volume that this particular member ''Suren'' gets so excited whenever Iran loses. I guess there is nothing to get joy from in their football that they focus on our failures. This is not even rivalry, this is desperation and inferiority. We are their hosts FFS, ungrateful losers. Without us, they would be homeless without any venue.

I guess it hurts to see Iran qualifying for another World Cup, while nobody knows about Iraq's existence on international stage.

I want Iraq to get defeated with 6-0 by any opponent in their WCQ group.

In my view, the coaching staff did not do their job well. Iran sat back and lost both last two games. In Portugal game, Iran should have attacked and could tie the game.

Yes, I agree Shekari should go to a better team or go to Europe. He can do it and will be good for Iran.

Kinda makes you appreciate CQ more as a coach seeing how hard it is for a manager to set up a solid defence.

I think the main issue was that peiravani just tried to implement a copy of CQ's tactics. However, not only did he not have the players to do so, he also only started the process 2 months ago. It takes much much longer than that to create a proper defensive system, and then additionally to work on connecting the attack. So as usual we were underprepared, and focussed so much on defensive end, that we basically made our offense a hack towards shekari and hope for the best, which was pathetic.

I hope u17's are better than this. All of their games I have seen they play in a far more attacking, expansive style ( although they still struggle to keep possession).

Coaching staff was not fit to represent the team at this level, and this was all IRIFF is capable of. Absolute horrendous coaching, I'm sure Peyrovani did his best in his mind, but he was just not up to the task.

Sorry guys.. but when was the last time we achieved anything with an Iranian coach in football?

This is why we need a coach like CQ and we don't even know how lucky we are to have him. As when you cannot defend, no matter how many goals you score, you still lose the games. And we saw this bitter truth in our last 2 matches. Let's keep this talented young team and hire a better foreign coach and see the difference.

This was a horrible coaching job!!! He needs to be fired! Defending for 90 mins doesn't work and this idiot though he was mourinuo suddenly. Bring on a foreign coach please
