You guys crack me up. Really. The reason Syria's home games are played in Malaysia is that that is where AFC HQ is located. Arabs have been trying to relocate it to an Arab country for decades and if they were successful the games would have been hosted by an Arab country instead. Then you would have cooked up another conspiracy theory if your game was held in September under 50 degree Celsius heat- Aussies had to endure that.

It is not just Syria but Iraq as well. AFC were trying to find homes to Syria and Iraq but things did not work out. Syria wanted to play in Iran and then Thailand or something and the latter declined to host. So as an AFC host country Malaysia was FORCED to accept the role. And the stipulation was that all games for each country should be played in the SAME stadium to minimize variation and maximize fairness to all opponents - barring some kinds of natural disasters like Typhoon or earthquakes. Heavy rain does not count as one as every reasonable person should agree.

So why were Syria's previous-round games played in Mashhad, Iran? I don't think AFC was located in Mashhad at that time.

                No no no no no.
No one is complaining about why its in Malaysia. We are saying why is the game being played in a stadium that doesn't meet AFC's own bloody standards.

You know what ?? You are absolutely spot on!!!! We are top of BOTH groups! The ONLY reason we drew this Syria team was due to the crappy pitch. So why the fuss???? We have 11 sweet points, we have 3 HOME games left that means a possible 9 points and 2 Away games One with a demoralized and weak Qatar who is completely out of the WC( actually the race fr 2nd is now between Uzbekistan and Korea)so we can easily bag about a minimum of 10 points from a possible of 15 which is VERY doable! This puts us at 21 points and on track to qualify, so have faith, this is NOT a sprint to the World Cup, but a long Marathon! Have patience and patience shall get rewarded.... We are half way their , just wait and see the glory that shall come in the next few months !

                    ^ actually malaysia too.

to pandora: NO. it wasnt held there becoz the HQ is located there. they propose a set of venues/countries and the host nation agrees on one.
The fact that they even proposed (even before the syrian scumbags agreed ... or I can imagine, JUMPED EXCITEDLY on it) such a venue given all the issues we'd have, is a point of contention on the ulterior motive

If you are talking about the offside at min 2:30, I say that was way offside. If that is why you guys are upset I suggest you read the rule book. It is the moment that your teammate kicks the ball that counts. The Iranian has been offside for a good 1/2 sec even before that and by the time the ball was kicked to the "scorer" he was at least a foot in front of the second last defender.
In fact if it had not been called offside it would have ranked as the worst call of this 3rd round along with the Japanese offside goal against Iraq that gave them an undeserving victory.
Moreover the Syrian defenders stopped playing after it was called. It is not like a whistle was blown after the goal was scored. Even if it was called onside there is no guarantee he would have scored.

                        Serious? Are you actually serious?
DID YOU SEE THE PLAY? LOOK AT GHOOCHANNEJAD.

Guys impartiality does not mean you go against the country your cheer for and act contrarian for the fun of it.
                        you must be trolling.

Look at Iran No. 16 (who was called offside) and compare where he is to where Syria No. 3 is.
                        Shameful.

I really have nothing to say if you want to hair-split that way not to accept the obvious that everyone agrees. What are the chances both Iran and Syria chose Malaysia? If you followed the event you should know that no other country accepted hosting the games so Malaysia was forced to accept them, both Iraq's and Syria's home games.
Also the fact remains that it was stipulated that the games are held in a single venue barring "extraordinary circumstances". The game vs Korea was already played in that stadium and they had no choice but to play the rest of their games there.
