Great achievement. He has really worked hard and officiating the Olympic finals was a step that he might start being chosen in bigger World Cup, Champions League games etc.

Can't wait to see him in world cup 2018. They are going to give him some very important matches for sure.

Best ref is probably gonna go to Mark Clattenburg, but Faghani is an inspiration for Iranian refs like myself

Correct me if I am wrong. So he is nominated for the best of the world, but not for the best of Asia?

Arab Football Confederation doesn't recognize us as a part of Asia.

EDIT: also, doesn't seem like they do one for referees to begin with

The used to do it for futsal and referees... yet they stopped all of a sudden this year. I'm sure it was random and had nothing to do with their bias against Iran.

This is the bias I have mentioned several times but the majority have ignored it.

If you cannot compete with Iran eliminate the category. LOL. What a farce.

Iran should cooperate with countries which respects its heritage and treat it fairly.

Tonight Alireza Faghani and his team officiated the final game in Hero Indian Super League between Kerala Blasters FC vs Atlético de Kolkata. Atletico wins the final in Penalty shoot out after a 1-1 draw in full time and extra time.

I watched the game and he did well.

Didn't know where to post this:

Faghani registered to run in the Tehran City Council elections.

Faghani is the referee for the Germany-Chile match in Confederations cup right now.
