Good for SS. I could laugh at SS by signing this player and watch them fail but I think our hatred toward shady middlemen who ruined our clubs is stronger among our fans. Tractor Sazi close to signing 30 year old Nigerian defender Michael Odibe. He last played for Akhzyahik in the Kazakh Premier League and has previously played in the Italian Serie A and Serie C, as well as in the Ukrainian Premier League and the Romanian top flight. He has also made one appearance for the Nigerian national team.

Saglam rejected him and wants to sign two Eastern European players (CB and CF) instead.

The transfer of Saudi player(s) to European leagues is not impressive at all, its more symbolic of behind the scenes exchanges.
They will all fail after poor performances and eventually return!

And I agree with you that most likely they will not player.
It is nevertheless a statement of the Saudi FAA that they want to push the players leaving their comfort zone.

I'm actually getting a little disappointed, this should be the time (coming up to the world cup) that three types of players start getting transferred -

1) Established players like Dejagah. Clubs can cash in on him because if he joins a semi-decent team he is well likely to go to WC18 and can then be sold to e.g. a Qatari/Chinese team for a good amount of money.

2) Younger squad players like Torabi, Karimi, who if they go to europe will probably make the squad and then can again be sold on for a good price.

3) Other young players who may not make the squad but may star after the world cup and increase in value (think of Azmoun pre-2014) e.g. Noorafkan

Of course both of these situations has a good outcome for iranian football because it means more european football and competition.

It seems like there are even less transfer rumours than previous world cups (not that this is necessarily a bad thing, but I'm so used to hearing such-and-such going to atletico madrid/napoli/dortmund etc...)

Krpic spent half a season in the Swedish league last year and was pretty much the laughing stock of the league. He will probably still be known in a few years as one of the worst foreign signings ever in the league.
