    the criticism of chamanian is RIDICULOUS. This man led the most successful iranian team in an international tournament, EVER. And before somebody says that it was just because of his players... He literally revamped the entire u17 age group and made it a regional program like volleyball, where scouts make teams from each region in iran, then they meet in a big tournament and play round robin matches against each other, and chamanian and coaching staff single handedly pick the best of the best, after taking detailed notes on every player. He is a gem for our football. His last u17 effectively won the last AFC u16, as they lost ok PK's to an iraqi team we have learned was overage and is now disqualified. His achievement deserve more respect than ridiculing his looks and moustache, which I personally think are badass lol.

    The players on the pitch have not performed. No two ways about it. But they are 16! And you guys are insulting them worse or on the same level you do regular tm stars. Have some perspective

            The east and south Asian countries like Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and India have been making investments in their grassroots football and it is now paying off. This is not the Asia of the past. Chamanian talked about this before the tournament started and is attempting to bring a new level of awareness. He is the exact type of leadership that is capable of learning from this and recreate our recent past successes at U16 and U17 levels.

            On another note, we are all entitled to our opinions about macro politics in Iran. Of course the realities of such politics impact our football and its development at all levels. Yet, the reality on the ground is that there are people like Chamanian and even Taj (he is more ideological than Chamanina of course) who are working hard to make a difference within the constraints of the existing system. I honor them for that. Are they perfect? No and none of us are either. We all have the right to expect more for our country and for our compatriots and I acknowledge that aspiration ... and I continue to salute people who everyday work hard in Iran to make a difference and Chamanian and Taj are such people.

            On a related note, Taj has taken IFF to a new level in terms of investing in our young women. In addition to our Asian Futsal championship twice in a row our U16 women's football team just made it to the second round of Asian Championship. Our U19 women beat Jordan U19 3-1 in Tehran a few days ago. They are coached by Katayoon Khosrowyar who moved to Iran from the U.S. to develop women's football and won an award for it (http://www.womenssoccerunited.com/ka...u-coach-award/). She is another person who is working hard within the constraints of IR to make a difference with our young women.

              1- some fans have unreal expectations from such an age category.
              not only it is difficult to see highly efficient games from such age groups, especially in a country like ours, but the in the list of top performers, many traditional powers of football are missing. Due to the inconsistency of this age.

              2- I wonder what and how was the preparation of the team in the run up to the tourney.
              Maybe StMark can lightly go over.

              But given IFF and Iran's tradition, I seriously doubt much was done in order to prepare these kids
              so howmuchever you invest, that much you reap.

                I haven't seen any of the games, but losing to these teams and tieing to India is just rediclus. Watching the highlights of the first two games it appeared they got us on counter attack buy scoring simple goals against TM16. Also it looks like they were defending against TM16 by parking in front of their goals. Plus our boys did not seem to be ready mentally. Under these circumstances TM16 needed to emp!oy tactics similar to the one used by CQ as starter to score a goal. But eago of these vatani coaches won't allow them to follow CQ, of course.

                  Since qualification game Sep 2017 in Iran ( one of the hosts ) which advanced as group head, U16 had training camps every 50 days. In addition, they had games with Syria and Oman in Iran and 3 tours abroad, Jordan, China, and Azerbaijan. They had one bad result (1:3) in Jordan but several good wins.
                  U16 during training camps in Iran has played various U20 age groups clubs of lig 1 or two.
                  They had not played in a similar environment like Malaysia or rainy weather.
                  In comparison to other age groups in Iran, their training has been better but as it was evident during two games in Malaysia, their physical fitness is poor and mentally unprepared for the stretch.

                  without strong power forward they have chosen to play 442 formations hoping for counter attacks and win with a low score.
                  They have failed to score in two games in the group stage and that has not been the case for years.
                  Chamanian will be under pressure to make some changes for the last game because the team need to score more than a goal and will be forced to go with 3 Forwards formation, something he should have done against India.

                    If India and Andonasia tie both advance to second round. The only hope we have is Andonasia to win against India and we beat Vietnam by at least two goals. So our chance is 50/50.

                      This team cannot score two goals. Sad that India has a better U16 team than us.

                        Exercise in futility; Yellow cards. advancing by one goal.

                        Not that this might happen but just for exploring weird possibilities or Saudi Luck scenario ( Saudi once advanced by lesser of yellow cards)

                        Since we are in the hail mary zone and talking about possibilities.... Iran should be careful about yellow cards against Vietnam.

                        Hail Mary Scenario.

                        What if Indonesia win by two (2:0) but Iran win by 1?
                        Indonesia=7 Points
                        India = 4 points ,-1 GD
                        Iran=4 points , -1 GD

                        The deciding factor will be yellow cards
                        As it stands India 4 Y & Iran 3Y.

                              Teams that have advanced or advancing:

                              Group A: Japan & Tajikistan
                              Group B: N. Korea & Oman
                              Group C: Indonesia & ????
                              Group D: S. Korea & Australia

                              2016 Champion Iraq is almost out. They need to beat S. Korea & Australia win low score against Afghan.
                              2016 Runnerup Iran has a chance if they beat Vietnam ( 2) & India lose.
                              Saudi Arabia & Uzbekistan were eliminated during qualification round.

                              N.Korea & Japan, Australia most likely will make it to the WC U17.

                              Let's hope Iran advance from group C to play against S. Korea for WC U17 chance.
