Alireza announced as Player of the Week by Football International:

"Player of the Week: Jahanbakhsh brings AZ to Ajax

Football International chooses the Player of the Week after every round of play in the Premier League. Alireza Jahanbakhsh excelled the most during this round of playing.

AZ climbs to the second place in the ranking this weekend, due to the defeat of Ajax at Vitesse. The difference with the team from Amsterdam is still two points. The personification of the Alkmaar urge to act is the Iranian with the strong right leg. Jahanbakhsh (24) was responsible for both hits that brought Excelsior for the 1-2 win.

At the opening goal he hit goalkeeper Theo Zwarthoed, the 0-2 was a shot and again his twelfth goal of the season. Add to that eight assists and work-mindedness, then it becomes clear how fortunate his trainer John van den Brom is with him. The fear was therefore great when the match winner with hamstring complaints had to leave the field in the final phase.

The international of Iran will play at the World Cup next summer against Morocco, Spain and Portugal. From a sporting point of view everyone in Alkmaar and surroundings will look at it with a double feeling: proud of 'their' Iranian, but performing well in Russia will also generate interest in the attacker, whose contract will continue until the summer of 2020."

Such a shame he got injured. Would have been amazing for him to get both top scorer AND top assister this season

In some ways this may be a blessing. It gives him some rest to recharge for the WC.

Woah, best ever? lets not get too carried away, his done great things at club level, not really amazed at national level, sardar has done more the last few years in the TM lineup, and his not even close to our "best ever player", he has 4 goals in 34 caps, his a good player for tm and hopefully he recovers well for us and shines in the WC because we need him to really take on the no7 shirt for us, by the way his not shot just a hamstring pull that gives him a couple of weeks rest god willing he returns to fully fit.

there goes any remote chance they had of finishing 2nd above Ajax... without ARJ, AZ are a bottom of the table side.

that being said, even with him in the side, they have an almighty run-in, playing all the other teams in the top 8 (some difficult away games too).

let's hope he gets back in time for the cup final. it would be nice for them to win after last year.

De Telegraaf have reported today that Alireza's injury may not be as bad as initially thought, and he may return in time for the weekend match away vs. Feyenoord:

                              "Relief around Jahanbakhsh

There was a shock at AZ, when Alireza Jahanbakhsh seized his hamstring on Saturday evening in the game with Excelsior (1-2) and then left the field injured. Meanwhile, Alkmaar is relieved with a breath of air, because the injury seems to be falling.

The Iranian striker, who has been decisive for months for the team of trainer John van den Brom, is expected again on the training ground. Jahanbakhsh left the field a few minutes before time.

On Sunday, the cracker in De Kuip against Feyenoord is on the program for AZ. The Alkmaarders hope to be able to set up Jahanbakhsh again."
