To hell with Gholam Reza Rezaei. Always hated him and I watched most of his TM games. His speed was useless since it was the only thing he had to offer and I'll never forget his stupid dive against UAE in the 2010 WC qualifications when he was literally 1-on-1 with their keeper. Good riddance to him.

Iranianarsenal jan, i agree that they are two different type of players, to be frank i don't rate Dejagah much as a CAM. He is a natural winger turned into CAM by Quieroz but when you have Shojaei, Rafieie and Shekari aswell as Ghoddos (though i've never seen him play) there is no need to force Dejagah in this position despite Dejagah being versatile. Shojaei'is passing game in that position is better, he is also fit while Dejagah isn't, really dissapointed in Quieroz for selecting Dejagah over Shojaei but let's hope it's because Quieroz wants to protect Shojaei and will select him again after the wc qualification games

& by looks of him, he eat more than he sold ..!
He wasn't too bad of a player, especially by IPL standards back in those days ..! But taneh lash was sluggish as fk & seemingly always outa form..! He was a good soldier for Cq & helped us get through some rough patches ..!
Imagine he is retired & 300lbs by now ..!???

Am I the only one who remembers Shojaei missing a penalty in our last game against Uzb? You miss a penalty in a crucial match, you risk the chance of not being called up for the next game. Imagine if Taremi hadn't scored the second goal and Uzb had tied? We all would've had the pitchforks out calling for Shojaei to be kicked out of the team.

There is no political conspiracy going on here, CQ has a chance to try out new players so he left out Shojaei.

Dont give penalties to shojaei could maybe be the solution? because compared to last WCQ rounds 4 years ago he has been good almost every single game

CQ picks according to what the game NEEDS ... and also has a long term plan.
There was one game when SHOJAEI was Captain .. and the next game .. he didn't even start ...

I think a few people here are failing to understand that national team football coaching is far more than picking the most in form players or even the most suitable players tactically for a game (especially when the result is not crucial; as in these games)

Inviting Dejagah and Karimi makes total sense to me from a man management perspective

                        We know CQ has

                        1) encouraged players to test themselves in stronger European leagues
                        2) already stated he has an elite player pool which he is rotating
                        3) created a tight knit group who give everything for each other

To drop 2 players who have taken a risk to try and get regular club football at a higher level at precisely the moment they need fitness and a morale boost would be a terrible move. Inviting them shows that he is backing others to take a risk to improve themselves

Plus, given their performances so far, I would hope he is resting Shojaei and Montazeri with reassurances that if their form continues they are likely to already be on the plane to Russia.

No we know why Pejman Montazeri was not invited to TM , he is injured and out for 2 months according to isna

Unfortunately we have a lot of numb nuts who do not understand what you just posted. The same numb nuts who automatically jump to conclusions.

Yeah alright, such and such should have, such and such must have, such and such shouldn’t have… bla bla bla! There will never be a squad with which all of the members are fully satisfied! Trust in CQ because he is the ONLY one knowing what he’s doing and he has proven multiple times that he knows best.

I mean, just look at our squad for the same match 4 years ago! Do you notice anything?

                              • CQ has changed almost the entire squad and brought down the average age by 3-5 years.
                              • Back then our starting 11 consisted of old players – almost all playing in Iran or Qatar (except Gucci). Now, around 60-70 % of the starting 11 are playing in Europe and only 2-3 are above 30.
                              • One of the most important things: CQ has built ONE TEAM! I think the team atmosphere has never been as good as now.
                              • CQ replaced big players like Nekounam, Teymoorian, Jabbari etc. without us even noticing that we are suffering in these positions.
                              • World-class coaches in world-class teams are suffering with a generation change. Look at teams like Brazil, Spain, the Netherlands. Latter one used to have one of the strongest teams worldwide and now they may not even play in the World Cup (after not playing in Euros either). Spain is struggling, Brazil is struggling. What is CQ doing? He built up an entire new generation slowly, but steadily. He managed to qualify for WC with ease! And and and and and.

We are experiencing a golden era from our beloved TM.

                              1. We have at least two solid GKs.
                              2. No need to talk about our defense – ROCK.
                              3. Look at our midfield. Never ever before we had the luxury problem of having too many top players available. Look at our current squad. Damn strong! And we have still players like Shojaei and Rafiei not even in the squad.
                              4. ARJ, Sardar, Gucci, Torabi, Ansarifard, (hopefully soon) Kaveh and now freaking GHODDOS. No words needed.
                              5. Most importantly: we have ONE TEAM! There is an awesome team spirit! We have a world-class coach who’s been with us for 6 years, consistently showing that he’s gold.

Now sit back, relax and enjoy the games.
Post of the year Shayan jaan.

A lot of people are forgetting that we were in dire need of a generational change after the last World Cup and while many teams have struggled with that, Netherlands, Brazil and Spain having all been younger teams than us, CQ has done a fantastic and seamless job on bringing in a new generation of players.

I think the only other national team coach in the world that has been somewhat as successful as CQ in that area is Lowe and I think even that's a stretch because,

1 - I don't think the current German team is as good as the 2014 World Cup team, while the current TM is head and shoulders above our 2014 squad.
2 - Germany was the 7th youngest team in 2014WC while we were the 6th oldest team.

So, when you put all this into perspective, I think CQ's performance and record in this aspect is absolutely flawless. I think we will see Ashkan, Jalal and Masoud gradulally phased out as well, although it would be interesting to see if it happens before or after the WC.

Personally, I think Jalal is the only one the list one who might get any meaningful playing time in Russia for the mere fact that he's a defender and a plays a pivotal role in the team.

This is an interesting post, but I don't agree that the veterans like Ashkan, Masoud, Hosseini will be phased out. CQ has two TM's, Team A, and Team 1 (how lucky we are!!). On team A, you have a mix of young players with 2 or 3 veterans to be leaders on the field. This includes Hosseini, Ashkan, and Masoud. Team 1 has the other half of the young talent, and uses the veterans not used in Team A.

Hope that makes sense. The only reason a player like Dejagah should be dropped is if he doesn't find a team, which I believe he will very soon, probably on the Sept. 1 deadline day!
