I think a lot of us would not have such a sour taste in our mouths if the syrians didn't play so unsportsmanlike.

The refereeing was also pretty inconsistent, not that it impacted the result ultimately.

the funny thing is to read all the comments here. this team has done an incredible job! stop saying that beiranvand has to go because he recieved only 2 goals in the entire campaign. As usual iranians are over emotional and cannot think straight. our young TM had errors which CQ knows how to fix for sure. this loss will come out as a WIN in the future trust me. when i say LOSS its because it looks like the fireworks and all are for syria and not for iran.

the way they were celebrating, I had to check the sheet few times now they got a chance, good for them! Hope it warms the hearts of Syrians.

As for our team, well, we had already qualified and they did great in Korea, less motivation and somewhat tired. Thank you for a great WCQ TM!!!!

Bachehah motashakerim and very proud over of each and one of you!

Syrians played dirty and fought hard, but I wish they didn't get the second goal. Anyways good luck to them.

Can't believe people are hating on Syria now, they fought, they are a war torn nation and you guys really cheering for Arabestan? Wtf dudes? They cried after the game, why you can't respect it?

Unfortunately a terrible end to an amazing World Cup qualification campaign. Both goals were our GK's fault. I wish we had just defended the last few minutes and not pushed for a third goal. This game feels like a punch to the gut with its ending. It's annoying because we played pretty well for the most part. Ugh.

Yes, after I saw them trashing Brazil in previous WC, I too came to the conclusion that we are not ready to win the World Cup but probably Silver will do for me!

Don't be so reactionary. Teams have bad games. This was our worst game since the first one against Qatar.

Sad day, but its true Syria is the strongest opponent in our group. They played very dirty, but smart and very
sharp in their counter-attacks. I dont like their team but i have to give credit for them because they never gave
up and attacked smarter than us!
In termy of counter attacks we habe to learn from them.

Iran had always trouble with Teams like Iraq, Jordan, Syria because they defend cleverly, fight with heart and of course playing mind
games and time play. Anyway we still are undefeated and can learn many lesson from that game.
Syria reminds me on turkmenistan, who had also very few chances but made the maximum out of it. Basically
Turkmenistan and Syria were our strongest opponents in the whole WCQ.

There is a clear line between a team that wants to go to second round in world cup and with a nearly 90% starter team can't really control a game against war torn Syria and a team that is unmotivated but keeps tactics and somehow wins such matches 1:0 or 2:0 we are not the latter team and observing the game I can tell you that there is a lot we need to learn before WC2018

I am not insinuating anything but that last goal by Syria defenitly looked suspect

Loooooool they decided to save the fireworks. So embarrassing, TM stayed on the pitch 10 minutes after the end of the match, and finally left the pitch as nothing happened, and so did the fans. What an unorganized country we have.

We played complacent throughout the match. Also we should stick to our own defensive tactics as it's been proven to work for us.

Anyway this draw for me personally Fer as bitter as a painful loss. We lost our clean sheet WCQ record , and the unclassy Syrian team also snatched the 3rd spot.

Uzbekistan had a great chance of owning the second spot up until last week and prior to that unbelievable 2-0 loss

I don't know what to say lol

It's just sad to see a country celebrates crying after a draw. I hope at least Syrians can cause an upset against Saudis or Australia. Very sad for Uzbekistan; however they only have themselves to blame as they played sloppy last two matches especially losing to China.

There will be a dent on our FIFA ranking though

Well. That's it. Nothing changed. The famous trio in the World Cup again. Iran, Japan and Korea.

Only one remains which will most likely be Australia.

In all fairness, there were only 4 or 5 decent shots on our net the whole campaign so it's not like he made 20 amazing saves but a couple got through... he had been mostly untested.

I was a huge Beira fan before but he did a lot of sketchy things this campaign from what I recall... I actually wouldn't mind seeing some of his saves (in the third round) if someone has a compilation
