I wish we would have beaten them and kept our clean sheet record, but on the other hand having seen Uzbekistan play and remembering what they did to us last WCQ campaign against Qatar (which could have easily cost us a WC), I am kind of glad Syria made it.

Now let's hope the Saudi's end 3rd and by some miracle get eliminated by Syria, with goals scored by their "Saudi Prince" Al Soma.
No miracle is needed. Syria defeating SA is well within the range of reasonable outcomes.

before everybody is tearing each other apart, pls try to keep cool, nothing happened! it was just a good test for TM and Queiroz! They will learn, and they will focus on their next challenge! Instead we should be happy and proud of a very good qualification campaign after all!
Furthermore, pls try to control your emotions and especially keep your language among yourselves clean! And don't open several threads about the same subject, also no conspiracy theories, we leave that to Mr. Moore. Thanks
      TEAM MELLI UNTIL THE END

Holy hell there are some emotionally unstable people here on PFDC. Relax, take a breather, have a drink. You guys make it seem like it is the first time we didn't win at Azadi. You guys forget they played South Korea just last week? It's not so black and white, there were multiple factors that played into today's draw.

CQ needs to make some adjustments, and we are in dire need of quality friendlies. Our GK situation is still the Achilles heel.

Do you remember all the time wasting tactics by Iran against Australia in '97 after Iran scored the equalizer? Need I say more?
Don't know why you got a hard on. I was just describing Syria in it's present state. I'd rather have a better footballing nation like Uzbekistan or Saudi Arabia represent Asia over them. But to say Iran's performance against Argentina was anti-football shows you don't know anything about football That was Iran's best ever performance. We had plenty of opportunities in that game, the more dangerous opportunities, and a clear penalty when Zabaleta cleaned out Dejagah in the box not called. Please go back and watch that game because it's an insult to our team to say that Iran played anti football that day when we gained so much respect from all the pundits as a footballing nation after our performance.

It's annoying because we played pretty well for the most part. Ugh.
Exactly. We dominated the match in most parts but it's football sometimes on a day that you play good, you may not necessarily win. You can attack hundred times and miss many goals but other team can have one clear shot, score and win. We have seen this many time. The reason we conceded the goal was that everyone wanted to score and went forward knowing this was more like a friendly for us and to act on their promise to CQ to score many goals. Well if Taremi and Pouraliganji had scored the two yawning empty net; then it could really be a 4-2. Soccer bro. Our unlucky day and yet we did not lose though. Cheers. Congrats to TM for easy qualification and now time to build a good team for the World Cup; finding the right CAM to have a better transition between the midfield and defence. Cheers

First, turn of your caps lock please.
Second, CQ had always said they won't take part in the celebrations (a few days ago).
Third, AFC officials told IFF their fireworks would not be allowed.

I feel somewhat pissed, but I think I'm just spoiled from that fantastics qualifying campaign. Unbeaten, qualified with 7 points ahead of Korea and two games in hand and set a new defensive world record in between. Oh, and that with a young team. I guess I can't complain .
                        right on
                        thats the attitude...!

it was a great chance for us to test out a more all out offensive Tactics in a competitive game, in order to better prepare for similar situation as last WC's Bosnia game, and Carlos took full advantage, be it, with a less than desirable outcome.
ultimately we were already through and considering our sever lack of friendlies and preparations , we had to milk these games for what benefit us the most in the run up to WC..!

I said it before that using the wrong players could lead to a loss as with lebanon. Dej and Azmoon saved us from disaster. Frankly SS needs a new coach to develop 3-4 of their talented players or they need to move to a better to a better place. Look at the old video o lebanon match and compare.
And the japanese ref is like sare crow. Wnen we see him, we say oh my God not again.

I'm very upset as well guys. But take a step back and realize that we are all upset that we conceded a goal during out qualification campaign and that we went to the World Cup with a tie in our final game instead of a win. We've had a very good run if these are the areas that upset us (and I'm not saying we shouldn't be upset).

A few things went wrong this game. First of all, our line up didn't work too well in the second half. Our defence turned off during the final minutes and Beiranvand had a terrible performance. But these are all lessons for us. We don't have and support from IFF, these two games were used as friendly games for our national team, and we learned from them.

Yes we can't say that we qualified without conceding a goal, but we still set the word record. We also qualified unbeaten. Azmoun became the 5th leading goal scorer at a very young age with an unbelievable ratio. Our left back problem is solved with Mohammadi. We have invested in our youth (Pouraliganji, Ezatolahi, Jahanbaksh, Azmoun, ...). And for the most part they've grown.

This game sucked yes, and it feels like being punched in the stomach. But that's the way football goes, and it only hurts this much because we were on such a high. So recognize that.

No. I've just seen you post for 20 years on Iranian forums and you only show up to say "i told you so" or gloat about an Iranian defeat.

I think cancelling the fireworks after the match was a good call.

The game would of course remind the players not to be complacent, and of course the entire qualification campaign was fantastic with lots of strong positives, but the individual match leaves a very sour taste in the back of the mouth. The goals conceded seem so different to the way that this team has been set up, it's difficult not to be a little confused.
