WTF.. why should Concacaf and Asian teams be in same pot?
Why not Asian and Commebol teams in one pot..

There can only be 8 teams in a pot. Since AFC is 4.5 spots and CONCACAF 3.5 with the playoff split between them. It fits.

We still have a 5/8 chance of getting an African team and given the fact that two powerhouses in Cameroon and Algeria are gone, I like our chances. Nigeria is the strongest African team now besides Ivory Coast.

Some major heavyweights like Netherlands are struggling while teams we struggle with like Bosnia/Sweden are on the periphery.

CQ in his press conference said that TM will be drawn into these Two most probable WC groups:

Senario1: we will be grouped with 2 EU Teams and a South American side.
Senario2: (CQ's more favored option) One EU Team, 1 African side, 1 South American team.

he went on to say that in terms of Progressing to 2nd Round (which is our Overarching Goal for Russia18) the way IFF is handling our WC preparations so far, TM will have the Least Legitimate shot of achieving that goal, compared to most all other likely teams who we can be grouped with..!
also mentioning/insinuating that EARLY WCQ was the best thing so far we had going for improving our chances of progressing out of the WC group, but TM's persistent financial difficulties and general inabilities of IFF had and continues to pretty much piss-away that bit of advantage...!!

so there you have it folks ...... unless you are one of those dreamers who still have some faith in IFF's ability to significantly improve our WC-Preparations Program going forward...!!?, my suggestion would be to lower your expectations accordingly..!!

as our preparations are going so far and probably likely to proceed in upcoming months till June & barring extreme Luck of getting grouped with perhaps the least formidable sides from those EU, CONMEBOL, CAF Federations, WE ARE GONNA DO ANOTHER 3 & OUT in Russia 18..!!

Whoever firmly expects TM to advance to the second round at ease is definitely the most delusional football fan.

I am truly hoping that the very same unrealistic high expectations of our WC2006 team will not reoccur and repeat itself by our football fans and people in charge during 2018 WC. I remember back in 2005-2006 many people thought not advancing to the next round would be considered a miserable failure. That notion got invigorated by our startling first half display against Mexico, although most of such Dream got crushed in the second half of the match, as we witnessed TM losing its first half composure and and solidity.

The moral of the story is, not to get too cocky and ahead of ourselves. Take a deep breath, look at the real and true state of our domestic league and its management and the entire country as a whole. Lower your expectations and only cheer and root for our TM throughout the tournament, no matter what the outcome may he.

With what we have in hand currently, we are not too selective and do not have the luxury of being the most confident footballing nation in the World Cup. It will take generations and a good football federation and systematic football youth academies as well as infrastructure to build a solid football league and its youth development.

I remember when Austria comfortably made it to EURO and went up to from #40 to #10 in the FIFA rankings (they were actually playing great football and got 28 out of 30 points), media and people were dreaming about this team being capable of beating everyone and being one of the dark horses of EURO, despite having qualified for the first time!!

This team returned back with 1 point in a supposedly easy group with Hungary, Iceland and Portugal. And now they were held 1-1 at home vs. Georgia and are 99% out of the WCQ (in another supposedly easy group with Serbia. Ireland and Wales).

We should not get ahead of ourselves.

teams like montenegro are the perfect level.
A team that has a solid chance to qualify from europe.
basically, any team that comes second in their UEFA group is a good team for a friendly.

Don't forget we all though we going to beat Bosnia as normal we did that in Tehran. But in World Cup 2014 we had totally different Bosnia and we lost 3:1 it was painful because with an easy win even 1:0 we would be go to the last 16!

I hope for World Cup 2018 we get a EASY group!

The Word Cup 2018 Draw is on Friday 1 december 2017 in the Kremlin in the capital of Moscow! GO IRAN GO IRAN. About 2 months from 1 october 2017. I hope we get any easy group this time.

Those we have played before. Would be nice to see how much we have improved over those teams. Two teams i really want us to play against are Serbia and Mexico.

Our defensive and counterattacking tactics also fits better against strong teams, while we are still tactically one dimensional when we have to score goals and play an open game.

I beg to differ.

I don't want to see 11 men in the penalty box for 90 mins, defending as if their lives depend on it.

This scenario usually ends in 'what-ifs' and disappointment. Sure a big team for round of 16 would be OK, but let's make our route to the next round as easy as possible.

After all, we have played 12 WC games, and only won once against a very average team.

As i live in Germany, i have a feeling and wish to play Germany, because at least information round around iran and news will be good about our group as they analyse in media, and so on, lol..really would like to know what they think about iran, talk about iran, and how we perform and if we can surprise..

But a game with Germany is really not easy.

I think we will have difficulties with Germany, Brazil, Spain. Difficult task and big problems to find solutions.

For me, as someone living in the Netherlands, my ideal group would be:

Iran
Holland
Turkey
Morocco

Of course seeding-wise that would not be possible and all 3 teams will also most probably not qualify anyway.

But a LOT of my friends are Turks or Moroccans, and I have a lot of Dutch colleagues, so that group would be WAR all the way!!
