World Cup Draw - How it works

For me, as someone living in the Netherlands, my ideal group would be:

Iran
Holland
Turkey
Morocco

Of course seeding-wise that would not be possible and all 3 teams will also most probably not qualify anyway.

But a LOT of my friends are Turks or Moroccans, and I have a lot of Dutch colleagues, so that group would be WAR all the way!!

There is a limit to the amount of hype I can take my friend.

World cup tickets are available in a couple of hours.

Sales phase 1 (divided into two stages)
During the first period of sales phase 1, which starts on 14 September and finishes on 12 October 2017, fans will be able to submit their ticket applications. During this sales period, it will make no difference whether they submit their applications on day 1, the last day or any time in between, as all applications will have the same chance of being successful. In cases where the number of tickets applied for exceeds the available inventory, tickets will be allocated by a random selection draw process. All successful, partially successful and unsuccessful applicants will be duly notified of the outcome of their applications by 16 November 2017.

Sales phase 1 concludes with the period from 16 November to 28 November, during which tickets will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

The four pots for the World Cup finals draw will all be allocated based on the FIFA World Ranking, following a decision taken by the Organising Committee for FIFA Competitions on Thursday.

This means that Iran could be the only team in Pot 3 from Africa or Asia. This isn't great news for us.

Wouldn't it actually be good news? If we get an Asian and North American team in our group somehow we'll have a better chance of advancing.

We can't get an Asian team even if we're in different pots.

Only confederation that is allowed two teams in the same group is Europe.

So we are 100% getting an African team, there is just no way around it, unless Hondarus makes it, then we might get Hondarus instead of the other 5 African teams.

We will get a top 8 team, a top 15 team, Iran, and an African team.

To me..this is almost impossible to qualify from.

The rankings aren't a big deal or a major indicator of quality. Some of the potential top 8 (such as Russia, Poland and possibly Switzerland) would actually be great opponents as opposed to mid level South American teams or West European teams.

Luxembourg held the most talented national side in France to 0-0, not even Messi can get Argentina to look like a proper team and a 35 year old David Villa who has been playing baseball for the last 3 years is getting called up to Spain. We have nothing to fear and all to win.
