Dutch coach refusing to coach in Iran because of his principles.

Dutch coach Gert Jan Verbeek announced that he was approached for a coaching job in Tehran, but he refused because of his principles. Saying he didn't say no right away as Iran is a beautiful country and Tehran is a interesting city with its huge population, however at this point of his life, he doesn't want to live in a country where death penalties are still a thing and where his girlfriend and daughter can't even enter the stadium.

He didn't say which club was after him, would be interesting to know though.

^^ Seems to be Esteghlal , he spoke about "his work being in Tehran" and another member here said this must be Esteghlal

Dutch website www.vi.nl says Coach Gertjan Verbeek turned down an offer from IPL.

    Which team can this be?

    UPDATE:

He says it goes against his principles to work in a country where woman cannot enter the stadiums and they still have death penalty

He doesn't seem to be a hypocrite so I respect his view and can understand it.

However, his girlfriend and daughter can enter the stadium, its Iranian women who are not let in.

Good on him. Hopefully, more foreigners boycott Iran where Gender Apartheid is the law.

Btw, Saudi Arabia Allowed women in the Stadiums 4 days ago for their National Day.

He was lucky not to come to SS specially with current situation on their club management. Mansourian left SS in total crap form and 90 TV showed how horrible things are. No decent Iranian coach dare to come to SS now. The only Iranians who may come to SS are clubless Faraki or Mazloomi.

GOOD point about CQ. He should boycott IFF and say that in public. CQ have had several pictures with Iranian female football teams. I will support CQ if he quits.

I hate that Europeans talk like they have a moral high ground.

It's not like the Netherlands created one of the most segregated nations on earth (south Africa) where their direct influence and racism is still destroying the life of its black citizens.

Or the islands they stole from natives and still own/control in the Caribbean.

                        Fuck outta here.

Europeans have no right to say they have "principles" unless they protest the international fuckfest that has resulted because of European imperialism

                        It makes no sense.

What other situation do you see somebody turn down work because of politics?

Do german and Dutch people refuse lucrative jobs in china because of the Chinese government??

No, they don't, they just like an excuse to be racist against middle eastern people.

Bro I see where you're coming from but you can't expect every European to take responsibility for all that their ancestors did wrong in the past. The fact of the matter is, the issues the guy is wary of currently exist in Iran (not ignoring the racism/division still in the West) and he's right to feel he shouldn't implicitly accept it by signing a contract.

^The guy is often on talk shows and definitely doesn't look like a hypocrite. Plus he always defend his former player Maher, who is a Moroccan, so he is no racist either.

He actually said Iran is a beautiful country, but he just recently got a relationship and a new born, that's why he doesn't want to put his girlfriend in a situation where she would be treated as a second-class citizen.

Also in the same talk show he is on, they always criticize van Marwijk for being the HC of the Saudis. He would be a hypocrite if he would have accepted the job in Iran.
