Not only does he need to be in our team he needs to be our captain too. He’s one of the most likeable guys with the most experience in the WC (he’ll be the first Iranian to play in 3 WC if he is included) and is a man of the people.

Holy crap we absolutely need this man on our team. His technique, vision, and precision has been astounding lately and he is easily more fit than any IPL midfielder and likely more than the club-less Dejagah. A damn shame if politics is to get in front of a key component of our world cup squad and a true legend :/

"Massoud: "Panionios pushed us to play against Maccabi"

In an interview with the Spanish newspaper El Pais, Sodje Masoud refers to the events that keep him out of Iran's ethnic group and says he wants to return to it.

"Massoud's Scream" is the title of the interview, which presents the consequences of the ACE ace when last summer he fought Panionian jersey against Maccabi Tel Aviv for the Euro Cup.

It is well known that Iran does not recognize and maintain diplomatic relations with Israel, and the presence of both Masud and Hatzisafi in the game has provoked reactions from the Football Federation of their country, being controlled by the government of their country.

"I want to go back to the national team. I want the coach, my teammates, the Football Federation. I'm both mentally and physically ready to play in the World Cup, "Masood says, adding to what happened last August, stating that Panionios pushed him to play against Maccabi.

"Panionios knew there was a law in Iran, whereby I could not play against groups in Israel but pushed us. They believed there would be no problem simply if we did not play the first game in Israel. In Tel Aviv we lost 2-0 (the Spanish newspaper quotes 2-0, although the blue-lions were defeated 1-0 in Netanya) and the coach told us that we had to play: at me and the other Iranian who had the team, Eshan Hatzisafi. When we told him that we could not even play in this game, he replied that we are fighting in a Greek team that participates in the Europa League. Here is not the national Iran, "he said. If we did not play, it would be worse.

If the club made a complaint against me that I refused to fight for political reasons, it would be worse. UEFA would forbid me to fight for a year. If we were to qualify, Panionios would win four to five million euros. It was too much for them. We were told that these games of the Euro Cup have taken us to the team. "

Then, 33-year-old Iran speaks of what he has drastically lived, trying to find a solution on the eve of the rematch with Maccabi in Nea Smyrni.

"The previous night I was on the phone. By dawn I was trying to find someone from the Iranian Football Federation to talk to someone from the club and find a solution. Nobody replied to me from the Federation. For 38 years, no Iranian athlete, club or club fought against a team or athlete from Israel. Hatzisafi and I were the first. Hatzisafi, however, turned to the national team, but I do not, "Masood says and continues:

"There was a misinterpretation. I had a contract with Panionios, now I just signed up to AEK. I have been playing for 12 years abroad, I have been 13 years in the national team and never made a show. I never said, I'm Masood. It will be an honor to wear the jersey of the Iranian national team again. The next World Cup qualifier invited us to the country's home, and there, because I am the leader, asked for my opinion on how the national team could do. I replied that I am very sad that my mother can not come to the field to see me. I told him that we are the only country in the world in which this is happening. We played against Syria and women were present. In Tehran and throughout Iran this is forbidden. I said to him: 'President, that's what you do.' The president replied, "We have to think about it." "

Then the AEK player talks about how he became a footballer, describing how he played barefoot on the road with the temperature reaching 50 degrees Celsius.

"I grew up in Abadan, south of Iran. There is the headquarters of a group that plays in the first category of Iran and wears the colors of Brazil. I remember getting naked on the road. Our life was football. Nothing else. We kicked out of school just to play ball. Morning, afternoon, evening. We were just going home at noon and then out on the street, even with 50 points, to play. Without shoes. From the sun I have blackened so much. I learned a lot from my older brother, who was a professional footballer. My name was Bebetto and then Romario. "

The war between Iran and Iraq, from 1980 to 1988, "marked" Masood's childhood years.

"My family was forced to leave our city. We were four siblings. We went for ten years to Shiraz, near ancient Persepolis. There I was born. My father was a navy and we watched him for a few hours every three months. Sometime we returned to Abadan and went to see the house that my own had left. My brothers' games under the stones, a sofa in the ruins, my sister's books ... ". "

His back heel pass and the assist after was simply something you'd only see from world class players
