I have been saying this for few years.

This tournament is a waste of time, energy and commitment. The day IFF decides to boycott this event and not participate, will be huge for Iranian football to progress and focus on more important aspects like youth NT teams and the senior squad.

Why withdrawing from ACL is benefitial to our progress? I can understand that we withdraw from it because of the Saudi saga or because this year there is the WC.

But I find it good for our football and the random iranians playing in our league to play against quality foreigners from Qatar. It also gives them international experience that can be useful for those who will play in Asian Cups or WCQ.

I find our football suffer badly from the lack of competition against quality opponents (competitive and friendlies for clubs, NT, Youth teams). We also don't have lot of quality foreigners in our league (coach or players). I don't see Iran football and league progress while only staying between iranians

I watched both matches.

GOOD:

Mazaheri performance, probably number 1 candidate for team Melli.
Kiiros Stanley good Brazilian for zobahan.
zob ahan had sometimes good passing, specially first half.
tabrizi another good player with good performance.
the pitch of al duhail. and al duhail seems to be a good quality side.


BAD:
The results.
ZobAhan missed to score the second goal and it was obvious that if they do not score, they will not win the match.
defense of zobahan broke...
zobahan was not fit enough in end of first half and from middle of second half. clearly to see..
tractor was slightly better team, but had not focus to win the match. al ahli won, but did not deserve it more as tractor. it was a draw match.
matches in empty stadium are no fun. no atmosphere.
both zobahan and tractor were very poor in defense and tactically in defense position.

Realistically, looking at Esteghlal's group, I doubt we will make it out of the group, let alone going far. On there other hand PP has a relatively easy group and has good chance to go to the next round (and even further) as group winners.
