2019 AFC Asian Cup Draw - April 27

I don't know how some people here can still getting excited for an Asian Cup after all what happened in the last editions. Especially 2004 and 2015. Wounds still aren't healed completely because I really thought 2015 was our year to win the whole damn thing.
I will boycott the tournament this time around.
Let's be honest. Noone outside of Asia cares about this cup. Iran's sole chance to receive world-wide recognition is by a strong showing in the World Cup. And I have a feeling this World Cup will be special with teams such as Italy, Netherlands, Chile and USA missing out and teams like Egypt and Peru finally made it after three decades or teams like Iceland and Panama who qualified for the first time. I really have high hopes we will get fair refereeing this summer. Especially in the group atage I expect lots of surprises. And I hope Iran can be one. We still have a chance despite the very hard group. Let's focuss on this mission and forget about that cup in January where we will most likely get screwed over again anyway.

Asian Cup is now less attractive without confederations cup. All the years, where we should won it, to have a great world cup preperation by playing some good teams in the confederations cup, we could not do it. now the confederations cup is history, it was the last edition...and therefore asian cup is now less attractive...

Sad that we coul not win asian cup all the years, to play good nations in confederations cup and a better world cup the year after...

Since it will be hosted at UAE, how much abuse of the name Persian Gulf are we going to see?

There’s no way Arab football confederation would allow Iran to win it, unless Major Arab teams get eliminated early in the competition. Even then we may get a ref like the one in China 2004 and the rest of story.

On paper and practically we are the best team and we should win it, but reality is different!

The confederations will take place but not in Qatar due to high temperatures but Qatar is allowed to decide in which country the confed cup 2021 will take place. Is it just a dream that they may choose Iran?

Fair point. I don't like the place or anything attributed to it, it's just tempting to pop my AC cherry. If I'm going to protest against the host country's regime by not attending, I'm going to struggle to attend any Asian Cups in my lifetime

I am mostly afraid of the referees and the AFC organizers. The referees have blatantly robbed Iran of two recent chances to go all the way: 2004 and 2014. In 2004 a very obvious over the top red-card was not given to the Chinese defender in the semis. And in 2014, well you know what happenned.

By the way, although Iran lost that 2014 game to the referee, I have never been prouder of how Iran played in that game, a man down for most of the game, and then coming back twice to tie the game. I knew then that CQs team has character and grit.

IRan winning the AFC Asian Cup on Arab soil ( and non Arab soil) is an IMPOSSIBILITY!! They will NEVER ALLOW THIS !! AFC and the Refs will make sure of that! Imagine Iran lifting the trophy in front of ARAB sheikhs, dignitaries and VIPS!! We might reach the final, but not win it, I saw this in the Stadium in 1996 when Iran played KSA in Abu dhabi when the Egyptian ref robbed TM of TWO goals!! One legit Azizi goal was disallowed and a Karim Bagheri penalty disallowed! Same in China in 2004 when TM played China and our defender was red carded when we were one up, Sadly again the same happened in Australia with the Aussie ref who killed our game with Pouladi red card! Its all the little things that kill us BIG!
