Great role models for all our youngsters

Love them or hate them, these players are fantastic role models for the younger generation who is increasingly showing signs of professionalism and ambition. These players have shown great discipline in maintaining their physical attributes to stay in the game for so long, maintained a healthy lifestyle, away from all the pseudo-attractions that often derail great careers of vulnerable youth, and showed that commitment to the game that demanded great sacrifice to reach this level at such advanced (football-wise) ages.

Players like Enayati, Daei, Rajabzadeh, are prime examples. And now, Shojaei, who didnt give up and worked extremely hard to put himself through routines that many fall by the wayside, to finally get the reward of getting the call to TM for a possible THIRD WC appearance.

What they have achieved is highlighted further when in our football history, we have had so many extremely talented and skillful youngsters who lost their way, got sidetracked by side issues, got tangled with drug use, ... who eventually were a big loss to IRANIAN football!

names like Khaziravi, Nikbakht, Kavianpour, Kazemian,

all, highly talented player who could have had years and years more in service of TM, had they had the same mentality as our role models.

I'm heartened by the new crop of youngsters who seem to be more professional and ambitious in recent years,, however. They seem to have their heads screwed on right. ready to work hard an sacrifice, to reach loftier goals.

p.s.: Interesting that majority of these went through that wasting-away period while playing at PP/SS , and NOT in their previous clubs!

well, since keepers and defenders normally go on into 34-35 even, to see a 34 yr old still playing is nothing that extraordinary.
However for a striker or mid, to stay fit and still play at relative top level at 34-35 or beyond is indeed extraordinay.

Daei, Enayati and even Rajabzadeh are forwards, who played into 34, 38 and 37 yrs of age respectively (if I'm not mistaken about the numbers). That is something to say about their dedication to fitness, health and proper lifestyle choices.

.... especially when we see many 28-29 yr olds run like they're 60 FFS, and run out of gas by 2nd half of games!!!

Nikbakht use to be my favourite player - I will never forget his incredible goal against Slovakia. He just didn't work hard enough at the end. A natural left footer who had it all - skill, physicality and the "IT" factor.

can anyone here explain the details of his fall?

Well written DD jaan. That coming from you an avid ex-Shojaei critic is quite heartwarming by itself!

Ali Karimi has a rebellious attitude toward BS and corruption and I love him even more for that. If we were living under different condition (a fair secular democracy and right management in our sport) I might not like him this much. SS fans had a player named Mojdehi, he was also awesome player but very rebellious. I heard many stories about him and saw some of his moves on old videos. Old SS fans should confirm this.
