On reflection, I think you're right. CQ will always take a extra defender over a midfielder any day.

Part of the Iran's final squad for World Cup was apparently leaked today during the unveiling of attire. Taj said the final list is pretty much known to the IFF. Then he said based on that final list they have been obtaining measurements for the jerseys.

Included in that list that was shown during the unveiling were Beiranvand, Hossein Hosseini, Vahid Amiri, Dejagah, Omid Ebrahimi, Vouria Ghafouri, Khanzadeh, and Mehdi Torabi.

This is something that multiple Iranian news sites are reporting.

I read the same. It also had Shoajaeiain in the list but he's injured so someone else will have to take his place.

Man I'd rather take one of the young kids on the fringes of the squad like Shekari/Noorafkan rather than Amiri. They would provide a similar level of contribution to the squad, and selecting one of them would be much smarter considering they will be around for a long time! The experience they could get from just being at the WC, even if they don't play, would be fantastic for their development and would most likely encourage them to work harder to become better and fulfill theirpotential.
Ah, what am I even complaining for.

I love CQ but he's clearly being blackmailed by Amiri, and will probably still be forced to call him up at 40

It had all the names footballeirani shared plus Shojaeian.
It wasn't a list so much as a assumption of who is going to the World Cup based on videos of certain players being fitted for suits.
