I didn't say he should be left out because he's old. I said he is older now and he is obviously not as effective since Queiroz finds a way to play all of his strikers at different moments of matches, and lately, that has not really included Gucci much. I don't doubt his clutch moments and will always be grateful for his contributions in 2014. But that was 2014. He hasn't really done much for this campaign. If it comes down to a situation where we can only take 4 strikers, keeping in mind that Azmoun and Taremi are absolute locks based on their TM performances, I think it would be unfair to leave out Karim or Kaveh for Gucci. Both had better seasons in leagues that are arguably more challenging than where Gucci played.

CQ doesn't seem like the kind of guy to set caps for each position in a 23 man squad. I think he's going to take Sardar, Taremi, Karim, Kaveh, and Ghoochi. We lack depth and quality in defense and midfield, I'm sure we can spare a spot given how stacked we are up top.

Yes, I would be very happy if he could take all 5 but I think he will also be considering the defense and midfield. If we take Ghoddos, Shojaei and Ashkan that's already 3 CAMs for potentially one position in the 11, with Amiri taking a spot for a tactical sub, so that's already 4 of the midfield spots taken. Add that to 11 spots for goalie/defenders, you get 15/19 (not counting strikers for now). Add Ezatollahi, Jahanbakhsh and Hajsafi that's 18/19. All you have left is one spot for another DM and let's be real, he's not gonna take only two DMs. It's definitely a selection headache to accommodate all 5 forwards in one squad. I wouldn't want to be in CQ's position for that dilemma.

Saam has a valid point. I have seen many league games from Gucci this season and he seems to be struggling a lot against even weaker Eredivisie sides who simply put 1 or 2 narekhar defenders to mark him.

I’m afraid he will be completely invisible against teams like Morocco who have much stronger defenders. This is the same reason he didn’t succeed in the Championship.

And honestly Rezaei and Ansarifard are much more psychical players that can be useful for aerial and 1vs1 battles.

Well this is also a good point, he scored the lone goal at our previous World Cup but that was against an already eliminated Bosnia. I think he is way more useful for a tournament like Asian Cup 2019, scoring against compact park the bus Arab teams is his specialty.

ok he had great chances against nigeria, two chances against argentina, he is not what he used to be , but he can still help us.not taking him is just wrong, even though karim and kaveh are good in europe , TM they are weak and not performing, expecially karim, kaveh is still ok

This is the most fatally flawed argument I’ve ever heard. So by that logic, azmoun should be behind Gucci for the starting 11 because he has never played, let alone scored a goal, in the World Cup. So the fact that Kaveh and Karim have been way better than Gucci (and it’s not even close) playing against better competition has no bearing on their position in the World Cup squad. I’m sorry but that’s ridiculous.

Obviously he had chances in the last World Cup, he was the only striker playing in that tournament for us but he’s not as good now.

baba joon ... I LOVE Gucci ... but to bring up what he did FOUR YEARS ago is not the right way to make your point for his inclusion.
At least say he is a clutch finisher. And has an engine. But he is also 4 years older.
Remember our FINAL is also our first match. And we won't have EZATOLLAHI but we MUST win.
So we need goalscorers. Whether it can be from a corner, set piece, free kick ... we need goal scorers.
I expect Jahanbaksh and Ghoddos given a green light to shoot when they want.

Agree with your squad. Gholizadeh and Torabi will battle for their place, even though they are really good friends. Hajsafi is a CM for the national team. Ansarifard will be taken as a winger or CM. I'm a fan of the way Ali Karimi plays, just needs to show his top form in the next friendlies. Prefer Majid Hosseini over Cheshmi. Can't decide on goalkeepers.

Personally, although controversial, if I had to pick 3 out of the 4, I am taking Azmoun, Karim and Kaveh Rezaei - so that means Gucci stays home. However, if he can put one in as a winger, then I would definitely cut the likes of Vahid Amiri.
