Beiranvand - 7 - One bad mistake, but defense was also at fault

Ghafouri - 6.5 - had to cover alot of the DM and CB f*** ups. Didn't allow him to go more forward than he would like.
Khanzadeh - 4 - horrible, dumb, slow, doesn't play physical despite his size.
Montazeri - 4 - mistake prone, nowhere near his best, physically manhandled.
Aghaei - 4 - ran over, nervous going forward

Hajsafi - 8 on offense, 3 on defense. I'd rather him play as a CM than DM. He simply doesn't cut it as a DM.
                Ezzatollahi - 4 - stupid, lazy, overconfident.
                Ansarifard - 3 - invisible.

Jahanbakhsh - 7.5 - great drive, purposeful going forward, intelligent,
Taremi - 8 - physical, hustle, patient, smart, very aware of the goal
Azmoun - 7 - did what he is supposed to do when fed.

                -------------------------------------------------------------

Mohammadi - 7 - head and shoulder above any of our other defenders, in 10 minutes he made more happen than Aghaei
Ebrahimi - 3.5 - Really bad player. Slowest on the field. Poor passes, runs into his own teammates. He can't be in TM.
Amiri - 4 - as mentioned earlier, he is basically Nikbakht and Madanchi now. Just runs, that's it. Can't pass even a simple horizontal pass.
Shojaei - 4 - dumb and violent again. He's a senior player but acts like a young hothead. He needs to be a role model on the field, had one or two good passes. Shouldn't start.
Ghoddos - 6.5 - Did great with his opportunities. Didn't rate him higher due to little time given.
                K. Rezaei - 5 - seemed tired.

Overall, the team needs to be drilled. I am giving them low grades but its expected considering the physical nature of our opponents. We basically played a World Cup Group stage right now (3 matches in short space of time). Once the team is physically more ready and the normal CBs are back, we'll be better, but I'm really worried about DM.

                  1) The real problem of how we replace Ezza remains, Masoud in for him really made a massive negative impact in the second half to our ability to control the midfield.

                  2) I have no idea what this idea of using Karim deep is but I hope that's the end of it and I also hope Ghoddos will be ahead of him and Masoud as he is the superior player.

                  3) AJ has arrived onto the international scene, the man is replicating his club form and it's a beautiful prospect.

                  4) Taremi and Azmoun are also kings amongst men. Absolutely vital players.

I wasn’t happy with our defending at all this game, but this was a great test for us!!

                      Good game.

                      Positives:
1- exposed our aerial weakness in our own box.
That is a major major point to be worked on. Especially if we may miss either or both of PAG & Hosseini.

Montazeri is a good defender. But he is not the point man for aerial combat.
You'd think Khanzadeh with his height would be. But today he came second best in 98% of the balls!

2- Beiranvand has clearly replaced Haghighi as number 1. But it was quite shameful to waste time and get a yellow for that, in a friendly game. Not nice at all

3- In 1st half Khanzadeh, A chill & even Ghafouri showed lack of composure in their clearing & passing.
But they settled a little by 2nd. Proves they have potential to get better.

4- Hajsafi has grown tremendously in composure & confidence. And that shows in how he faces opponents of European stature. I hope other lads also would learn from him.

                      Negatives:
1- Too many changes in the mid which didn't allow the midfield to settle. But that's ok. It's just a test.

2- Would have given Ghoddos a little more time though.

Don't feel like writing a lot, just a few things:

Too bad Beyranvand made that mistake, which immediately was a huge mistake leading to a goal.

Khanzadeh was shaky, both on and off the ball. Especially on the ball he was clueless and gave a lot of shaky risky passes, or just wrongly cleared the ball.

Aghaei wasn't anything to write home about either, but considering he's quite inexperienced and the fact that his direct opponent was Mahrez, he gets a narrow 6 from me.

We really have to pray that nothing happens to our fixed players, cause the backups are still quite shaky to play in front of Spain, Portugal and Morocco at a WC.

Overall an acceptable/good first half and a somewhat disappointing second half.

Still happy we won of course, which is a good confidence booster.
Persian Pride running through my veins!

Not sure why Jahanbakhsh gets these high grades. He played a average game at best imo. In the second half he had a tendency to dribble too much when he saw a opening despite his teammates being in a open position.

That was the best I’ve seen Hajsafi play in centre mid for Iran (free kicks aside) - I’ve criticised him before for not having any outstanding attributes for a central midfielder but he really stepped up today. Looks so much more comfortable alongside Ezza - they know each other’s roles so it’s important for CQ to give the other central midfielder he’s going to play in the first game as many minutes now to forge as good a combo as possible. Despite his poor game against Tunisia I’d still currently favour Karimi due to his experience and potential.

Seeing Taremi come off was worrying. His clever movement drifting in from the left inside forward to Azmoun’s central striker is the most potent and dangerous attacking combo we have and it’s crucial to our chances that we keep them both fit. I can see them even causing Spain and Portugal problems, though if CQ has learnt the lessons from 2014 (and depending on the Morocco result) I suspect either or both players might be rested in the second game.

It was great to see Shojaei given the chance to prompt play from deep in midfield in the last 30 mins given that this is what he does best in the latter part of his career. He really is different class and adds something to our squad that no one else can bring and it’s no coincidence that we put together some of our best combination play in this period - for me his ability to use the ball intelligently and find space gives the other players confidence to bring their possession game up another level. He’s a superb tactical option for when we need to pressure the opposition and are chasing a goal or need to keep possession and take the pressure off our defence. We’re going to miss him when he retires.

Jahanbaksh continues to improve, but he’s coming from a low baseline in a team melli shirt. He started well but faded for me and I'm yet to see him cause the opposition the continued problems that his reputation suggests.

CQ clearly wants to get Ansarifard into the line up somewhere for a good portion of this WC and given his record this season and his versatility in the front 4 he could be useful, but that weird experiment of playing him in midfield at the start of the 2nd half clearly didn’t work. If he was attempting a more attacking line up to simulate chasing a goal then this one was too vulnerable defensively.

Aghaei doesn’t look comfortable either in possession or defending. If this is the best back up left back we have I’d rather not take one and play Hajsafi there if need be.

Beiranvand really needs to work on his decision making. He’s capable of some superb saves and counterattacking but needs to cut out those mistakes. He’s a double edged sword for us at the moment - capable of saving us or throwing it all away.

Defensively again we looked pretty shaky - but again this was an unfamiliar back 4 with no cohesion playing together. With 2 experimental defensive line ups against 2 strong North African teams we only conceded a goal per game, which should give us a huge confidence booster with our 1st choice back 4 against Morocco.
