Persepolis played today, that's why he probably said it. And let's be honest, past two years, Persepolis have been the standard in Iranian football.

        Observation about this game
Noorfkan is a much better left-back (where Schafer is playing him) than Aghaei. He was very impressive in Sierre Leone game (MOTM) - hope CQ chooses him over Aghaei, plus he is younger and can get great experience in the World Cup.

You are right about Hosseini, although, he has not featured in TM games. The rest are fringe players at best. I think CQ is done with Ansari.

I really think PP's gameplay the last few months have shown the limitations of Branko's coaching abilities. I really hope, despite winning the league this year, that they look to go in another direction. Doubt they will though.

Perspolis is the only team worth comparing to in Iran in the past year or so which is why I compared them.

Noorafkan is also a good option bc of his versatility (LB, CDM, CM, LW). SS have been really calm and controlled the match in a way I have seldom seen iranian teams do against arab teams (Especially in comparison to the emotional, lack of quality play they showed vs Al ain in the last match). Schaeffer has done a really good job

Esteghlal deserves to top the group TBH. Playing solid football.

Schafer has made a world of difference in this team!

What’s up with all our players screwing up all free kicks and shooting wide into the sky?

Unbelievable how we don’t have a decent FK taker or someone with some good shooting ability!

Pejman Montazeri has played well this game. I think his issues in the Tunisia game was due to fitness issues. He's always been very solid and doesn't take risks. He was absolutely amazing against Argentina in the last World Cup for TM.

Hope to see him regain his fitness and reach 100%. He is an asset to TM and Esteghlal.

I was just about to say this. Besides one or two retarded momets in possession, he has been really good. Made some crucial interceptions and slide tackles. Pejman's issues are fitness and form based, I am sure he will return to a better level. Others like Cheshmi or Ebrahimi or Ali Karimi have more quality based issues.

I feel like Nekounam and Teymourian were our last FK takers that could actually threaten the goal.
