I mean there are examples of respectable management in other sports. Volleyball program went from zero to one of top 10 in the world, constantly churning our new talents that go and play in the best leagues in the world.
Wrestling of course we can see that with all limitation still bringing in huge volume of medals in all age ranges and competitions.
Issue with football is there is a lot of money/notoriety in it compared to aforementioned sports, attracting higher volume of thieves, more mismanagement which in society as corrupt as Iran is recipe for disaster.

In our football, I can count the number of people on two hands who genuinely care about Iran's accomplishments in the federation/punditry and are not blinded by some personal agenda some members are being accused of having here. Literally the Americans right now are doing everything to make sure they eliminate the legacy of 1998 by beating us and IFF is just sitting doing nothing. Their fans underestimate us, but if we don't have a system/friendlies, they won't be that far unless our players magically have a good game by chance. Without any friendlies, a photo-op for Imam Reza would be followed by people getting fired in a country that is accountable for these idiots in charge.
If Scotland/Wales qualify this will be the easiest group we have ever had in a World cup, and we are going to blow that chance at R16 away.

Pangea stated that joy is highly-politicized and that IR doesn't want too much of it."This is a totalitarian system whose presence people feel in their blood and in their flesh on a daily basis. And it’s one that does not grant freedoms of any kind, or accommodate people’s demands in any way. What is increasingly clear is that there is clear demand for change in the regime. What the people want is regime change, and no return to the past. There is a very real possibility of regime change." - Nasrin Sotoudeh

8 national team shirts awarded to president
iran's national football team's no.8 jersey was awarded to president hojjatoleslam seyed ebrahim raisi last night in the presence of the sports minister and the head of the football federation.
8 national team shirts awarded to president
according to the official website of the football federation, seyed mirshad majedi, the head of the football federation, expressed his satisfaction with the presence of managers, heroes and athletes at the meeting with the president and said, "the national football team of the islamic republic of iran is of particular importance to all the people of iran, and especially in the world cup, we will all have a hard responsibility. i and all my colleagues are servants of the dear people of iran, especially the family of the martyrs, and we hope not to be ashamed of these loved ones in the upcoming competitions, however, in addition to the sporting dimension of the competitions before us, it is also important to draw certain conditions in this group that will increase our work in the cultural dimension and social responsibilities.
the head of the football federation added: "the special, sharp and resourceful look of the president can be effective in the process of preparing the national team in the world cup year and help the football federation. increasing the cost of international trips is a problem for all sports federations and we hope that some measures will be taken in this regard to allow for sending teams and reducing costs. financial discussions are somehow one of the problems of all federations, athletes and champions, but with the support of the respected government, we hope to solve this problem for the sport of the country.
at the end of the ceremony, with the presence of hamid sajjadi, minister of youth and sports, and mirshad majedi, the head of the football federation, the no.8 jersey of the national team, due to the president's special interest in this number and congratulations, the eighth imam of imam ali bin musa al-reza (as) was awarded to hojjatoleslam seyed ebrahim raisi......

Its more a sense of impending regret that we have a very visible route to RO16 with a solid preparation plan and fixing a few key positions (which will require friendly games/camps to do properly), but will likely come up short just because the preparation was so bad.
I cant believe how far the standard has slipped from the prep we had with CQ in 2018 (which btw still wasnt enough, i am sure if we had one friendly vs a "top" side the issues the boys had starting the games vs spain and portugal, finishing their chances would have been mitigated to a large extent).
Objectively the best possible prep for morocco game was algeria, tunisia, and it paid dividends as we won that critical game. The russia game was very good for highlighting physical weaknesses of certain players, and the venezuela/panama/bolivia games were all of a solid level to help our team with having more of the ball and also testing domestic guys (particularly some of the defenders like Majid) vs international opposition / getting them bedded in.
Still, a game vs a team like Croatia or Belgium would have made all the difference vs spain/portugal.
Which brings up the point of our current situation. the US match is our morocco match. We HAVE to win that game. To prepare its very clear we need to play Canada - a team stylistically similar to the US in many ways. They want to play us and diplomatically wouldnt have too much trouble hosting the game or even coming to tehran. How hard it is to get it sorted is really incredible. As for the other games, people bring up issue of no EU teams being available which is true but african sides still provide a solid option to test out our suspect defense vs speed and physicality - also no movement on that front.
Ultimately the results, bar a miracle, will reflect preparation to a large extent. Especially in the current situation that NTs didnt play with each other for an extended period of time due to covid, we missed all possible friendly dates, had legionairres going in for camps for just a couple days, etc. We had our best performance ever in the previous WC, and what is telling is that we had one of our best prep plans. Now we have one of worst...And the expectation is that we can get to RO16 this time? Prepare for dissapointment unless something happens soon.
