We are in the toughest group and certainly the TOUGHEST group we have ever been at a WC. Our best points total at a WC is a grand total of 3. It is unrealistic for some of you to expect CQ to get at least 3 points from this group.
Some of you argue that why keep a world class coach if he can't get us out of the group stage? The reason is simple. Thanks to CQ, our footballing culture is changing. We are more organized, professionalism is becoming slowly the norm and we have become the best side in Asia and have been so for several years now. Our football by all objective measures has improved significantly during CQ's reign.
CQ has no control over how much the country spends on facilities/infrastructure or how our football leagues operate. He has had so many other factors go against him (ie. geopolitical tensions, sanctions, conflicts relating to release of SS/PP players) and despite all this, he has turned Iran into the best side in Asia by a large margin.
Also what other coach could give some of the intangibles that CQ brings to the table? Our friendlies this time leading to the WC are our best ever. Many of these friendlies occurred simply because of CQ's connections. Intangible factors such as this should also be considered when determining if TM should part ways with CQ after the WC or not.
I think a more accurate test of CQ's coaching abilities should be the Asian Cup, not the WC with Iran in the toughest group.
Lets see how CQ does in the Asian Cup (if he ends up staying with TM and being our coach).
