Iran Unveils Rugs Woven for Rivals at 2018 FIFA World Cup

Now this is an amazing gift to the other teams! Also, note the additional rug woven for the knock-out round! Check out link below for images of the rugs.

Iran has unveiled three rugs woven by highly-skilled Iranian artists to be gifted to Team Melli’s Group Stage rivals at the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Russia.

These Persian rugs are to be given to the captains of Morocco, Spain, and Portugal, the three rivals of Iran at the Group Stage.

Four other precious carpets are also being prepared by the weavers of Tabriz to be offered to the FIFA Museum, the Russian Football Federation, the Iranian Football Federation, and the Museum of Astan Quds Razavi (located in the holy city of Mashhad), among others.

Interestingly, one other carpet is also being woven to be gifted to Iran’s rival at the knock-out stage in case the country manages to advance to the next level for the first time ever.

Persian carpets, widely believed to have been around for more than 2,500 years, are deeply rooted in the Iranian national identity.

The 2018 World Cup will be the fifth time Iran is qualifying for a FIFA World Cup where it has failed to advance past the group stage in 1978, 1998, 2006, and 2014.

The 21st edition of FIFA world cup will kick off on June 14th, 2018 with the opening game taking place at Luzhniki Stadium, in Moscow, Russia.

to think we have such stunning artists and designers in our country, not to mention people to come up with such a cool and unique idea, yet we have to prostitute ourselves to adidas for a simple ugly jersey.

You would think with the amount of scientists, engineers, doctors, etc our country has we could create one of the most high tech kits, on par or better than nike and adidas, employ some of our fellow hamvatans, and use our artists to come up with a nice design.

This applies to a more macro issue, unfortunately. A lot of Iran’s talents in every sphere is harmed by lack of internal investment and political isolation. Not many Iranian companies can afford to improve past Adidas/Nike quality. They 100% have the capability, but being years behind in the sphere, it would take investment to see this potential reached.

Our football is the same. Our neighbors are investing heavily and will improve. Iran as a football team could be a top 10 team with proper investment. Unfortunately, we can only dream of a day when our players are given the resources to succeed.

Guess the IFF logo on the rug answers the question in the jersey thread: we won't see a new logo in Russia.

Instead of IFF's logo, I wished they had designed Iran's flag there instead. But they look really nice! Dameshoon garm.

I actually dont like this tradition.
It looks too much like "please like me, please, please, please".
I always cringe when I see our officials come & take photos while handing these over to the other team officials. Never liked it.
All over the world, professional teams meet and nobody (that I know of) does such elaborate stuff.

having said that, I have to complement our artists and crafts-people who take their precious time to weave such exquisite pieces ... all for a bunch of no-good, dirty, anti-Iran IR officials to show off!

You are right. Most or all of high quality brands products are produced in india, china, taiwan, pakistan and countries like them for cheap and exploited labour. so our country is for sure capable of producing same or better quality stuff. The thing is the American bullying strategy from marketing and advertising in the most powerful media outlets that they have created to sanctions and proxy wars to keep us busy fighting and wasting our time and money and energy as means of distraction to give the market to their own corporations. So if you produced a product better than nike or adidas your product would be on the shelves collecting dusts. But we can sure produce them.

I know some iranians tend to force people to like them, but not all of them. Presenting gifts and presents is an aspect of iranian culture & in my opinion a nice one. Just because your opposite is doing it different, doesn't mean that u have to adapt to them.

To be honest, I don't think this is such a good idea! ... No one has ever gave us anything valuable. Why are we going over board with this Khaayeh Maali Akhound Ideas??? ..... the outside world does not understand the Iranian generosity, they interpret it as stupidity or unnecessary act.... In 1998 we gave the Americans flowers, they gave us zip... In 2006, we walked to the field with those huge and heavy frames of expensive wool carpets made specially for Mexico, Portugal and Angola. What did they give us? Noooothing!!! .... Did they care for the carpets? Not really! Did they even take them home? We are not sure ... they were too big and heavy to carry! ...... I remember the English commentator making fun of how big those were and jokingly said, you need a truck to carry them off the field. So, why waste? ... Just exchange the usual thing with each team...... We should sell our carpets and not give them away to bunch of people who don't appreciate .... fck it!

The world KNOWS Iranian Persian Rugs. Persian Rugs are famous.

When I lived in the USA, many Americans asked me for and about Persian Rugs. Many years ago, I guess 40 years ago, I was invited to a house party in the State of Minnesota. The hosts showed me their Persian Rug. They were proud of it.

The Royal thieves of UK have Persian rugs in their rooms and offices.

We are Iranians. One of our sign of Iranian heritage is Persian Rugs. It is our art and it has been displayed at the United Nations' entrance since 1969 for everyone to see the beauty of Persian Rugs.

I was in Mexico several months ago, a colleague showed me his Persian Rug. He was proud of it.

I am PROUD of Persian rugs because it represents us (you and me)..... It is our heritage. It is one sign of being Iranian.
