    Greatest Iranian Legionnaire Season Ever?

    Interesting conversation:

Who has had the best legionnaire season ever? For me, there are three candidates:

    - Mahdavikia in 02/03, had 14 assists and lead the Bundesliga that year in assists. As a matter of fact, most assists since they kept records of assists since 1994 (up to that point - it has been broken since) - Bundesliga
    - Hashemian, 16 goals in 2003/2004, finished 4th in overall scoring - Bundesliga
    - Jahanbakhsh, 21 goals, 12 assists in 2017/2018 - Netherlands

What do you guys think? Did I miss anyone's season abroad?

Yes...I would definitely include Nekounam's 2008/2009 season as well. As a DM, he scored 9 goals, second best in his team ahead of most of their forwards.

      Thanks!

Didn't he make Marca's Team of the Season as well?

^^Don't remember. I know he was the first Iranian to become a captain for his European team at some point. Don't remember which season either.

Jahanbakhsh for sure. He is the first Iranian top goal scorer of a major European League. All other Iranians who were top scorer in foreign leagues were in Asian Leagues: Piyoos (Qatar League), Karimi (UAE League) and Sohrabi (Tajikistan League).

Although Hossein Sadaghiani back in 1929/30 was top scorer in Belgium but not sure if it was the highest league.

Gucci's 2016-17 season was good too. 34 games - 19 goals in the league and 4 appearances and 2 goals in the cup.

Gucci's season was very good last year but I am more impressed with AJB since he isn't even a forward.

Azmoun is good in September-October and then again from April-May.
                        That's about it.

if we want to be selective like that Daei's performance in the 99 Champions League with a really bad Hertha Berlin team is still the best an Iranian has done in the CL.

Got to take into account the strength of the leagues so Mehdi and Javad’s achievements are still more impressive for me

                            .

I agree. I think when Javad was in La Liga, it was the best league in the world and he was always Osasuna's best player - match in and match out. Then you have Mahdavikia dominating with his passing and assists a great league, same with Hashemian with his goals.

I was actually comparing Daei and Azmoun's run in CL, and I believe Azmoun's is just as impressive, if not more impressive, than Daei's.

Daei scored 2 goals against Chelsea and 1 goal against Inter, correct? Great feat, no doubt.

Azmoun scored 1 goal against Bayern (one of the best clubs in the world), and 1 goal against Atleti in Madrid, which is very difficult and against one of the best defenses in Europe. Also, Azmoun scored against Ajax and Anderlect in an earlier CL stage.

Both Hertha and Rostov are equally as bad for CL purposes.

                              What do you think?
