its sorta bizzar how not many here got their panties in bunch in regards to his omission..!!? instead went ape-shitt on CQ for cutting Jalaal Hossaini and v. ghafouri..!!
i guess because we got attacking talent coming outa wahzoo and surprised an ultra defensive CQ cutting two key defenders..??

What does Dejagah have to do with him? Dejagah plays in midfield. We have Taremi Azmoun and Jahanbakhsh ahead of him in the front 3. I think he should have been the substitute striker because he's 10 times better than Gucci but Carlos had other ideas. I'm pretty disappointed in that decision but what can you do...I think it's the only mistake in the squad. We really could've used his press in emergency situations.

New to these forums. Few points....

I know I might get a lot of flack for this but I think Shojaei is overrated. Don't get me wrong he has the pedigree and has played in some good leagues, but my problem with him is he always wants to make the fancy or dramatic play, rather than the RIGHT play! My other issue with him at this stage of his career and specially against work cup caliber teams, is that he does not cover enough field for my liking. We will be defensively oriented again, and we need players who get to the ball quick and cover ground. For example, Ando was great at this. He wasn't super skilled but man his motor was always running.
........In Shojaei's defense he is gifted one on one and can thread the needle with his passing.

I do like our counterattacking players better this world cup. If this is our only way to score, other than a set piece, I feel good with jahanbakhsh, Azmoun etc... I'm a little worried about Gucci (don't know why).

Favorite player on this team- Hajsafi. Skilled, composed, low center of gravity, makes the right decisions, a cerebral player.

Anyways its good to be on board!!!!

I agree with your points on shojaei. Unfortunately we are pretty low on the CAM positions, especially with Ashkan just returning from injury. Reza shekari from u21 and Rubin kazan can phase him out in a years time probably. I would also have rather seen Kaveh Rezaei than Gucci, but CQ opted for experience, and Gucci does have a track record for TM of being clutch that ultimately doesnt have.

i don´t know enough about him to have such opinion. probably he is, probably he is not.
fact is that he did not play vs. turkey, we will see what happens in the kosovo match, but cheshmi at least can be used in two positions, and with his kale he can also score from freekicks or corners, therefore playing in 2 positions (whatever his playing will be) and his ability to score give the factor to held him in the team, also he collected now new experience vs. turkey....

Get Rid of Cheshmi, Khanzadeh, and 1 more fringe player in favor of Seyed Jalal and Ghafouri. Start the classic CB partnership of Hosseini-Montazeri with Pouraligangi as the CDM covering for them. With this, we go back to shutting down our opponents like qualification.

I don't mind young Hosseini starting against Spain to gain the experience, but we need 2 more matches out of Seyed Jalal against Morocco and Portugal. I trust CQ, and I hope that he makes the right decision. I agree that he must have realized that the Cheshmi experiment won't work, and he needs the grizzled veteran to return for one last ride into the sunset/Round of 16.

EDIT: Everyone should keep in mind that we are at 24 players, and must take only 23 to Russia. As a result, there won't be any ability to swap one player out for another. Instead, CQ will have to cut 2 to bring in 1, 3 to bring in 2, and 4 to bring in 3.

I agree with you, short of unfortunate injuries, health reasons very unlikely CQ will reverse himself, that's not like him.
1- If he really was serious about 4 standby players he would have included them in their current Squad in Turkey so they stay fit.
2- Logistic reasons stated by CQ is just a polite excuse.
3-CQ said in his " never never ..." statement recently that he is very impressed with his defensive line performance.
4-Irresponsible requests of 30 MP idiots to Majlis made this issue political and more difficult for the head coach to entertain.
5-he would usually stick to his guns rather than give in.
